Newbie advice for UY comic book value

I am not a comic book collector, but I purchased UY comic books as gifts for my nephew when he was young. He recently moved out of the house and told his mother he outgrew them. She returned 23 comic books to me and I'm not sure what to do with them. Obviously, there are UY fans out there, such as yourselves. Is it worth reselling? Do you list them on eBay and get what the market bears for each? Or go to a comic book store and trust them for a fair price? The set appears to be in great condition, with most comics read maybe once or not at all. Some are in bags, some not. A little guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!

Well, it really depends what issues you have.

If you got Albedo #2 or some such, you can get a pretty penny for it.
But if you have issue 4 and 5 of the current run, they are about cover price and not that hard to get so you wont be able to sell them for much.

The Fantagraphic Usagi issues fetch a nice price, usually $8 or more each.

The rest of the series goes for cover.

Thank you. At a glance, most appear to be by Dark Horse Comics. But there are at least 3 that are Fantagraphics, including Issues #1, 28 and 30. So that info is very helpful.

I use Mile High Comics for price quick references.
If you are selling the comic (on eBay,etc.) expect to get about half of what Mile High asks.
Their computer system works great.
They have many pictures of covers.
Their information on numbering is good.

Hmmm. I'm going to politely dissent from the opinions shared so far . . . a quick review of Usagi issues for sale on Ebay will show that most issues, regardless of age, all the way back to Fantagraphics #1, sell for less than $1. on average. One can even acquire a complete run of the Mirage color series 1-16 for less than $1 an issue.

Comic book stores which carry a good selection and see lots of customer traffic may be able to charge cover price or even a little more, but you and I are not going to be able to sell Usagi comics (or really any other titles) for anything near cover price. Your ordinary comic book title loses 75% of its retail value as soon as it is purchased new.

The hardcover editions are HOT, the trade paperbacks hold their value, but the market for comics is just mush right now, so hang on to your Usagi comics and enjoy them, and pass them on to a potential reader some day.

Ah, but then I haven't accepted Ebay into my life, unlike most of the world.

I am more of a traditionalist and get my back issues from stores and conventions, so I pay the mark up.

But if it's cheaper on the net, then by all means get it that way.
