How many people here are also Groo readers?

Post by Jet_Jaguar »

I was just curious about how many of the UY fans here are also Groo fans. I suspect that several are, but I was a little curious since I only recently discovered Groo. I've been a UY fan for almost eleven years (I started reading it when it first moved to Dark Horse), but I had no idea that UY and Groo were connected in any way until a few months ago. I'm not sure how I managed to go so long without knowing that Stan does the lettering for Groo (of course, for a long time, I wasn't even aware that there was any UY before the Dark Horse issues! If Wikipedia had been around in '98-99, I might have figured it out sooner).

I vaguely remember reading it once or twice when I was a kid (mid-late 80s, when Marvel was publishing it), but I never kept up with it very much. When I discovered that UY and Groo were connected, I picked up a few Dark Horse TPBs and some old Marvel issues from a comic book store, and I got hooked. I'm glad that I rediscovered Groo; I now consider it one of my favorite comic books. Each issue usually has something in it that makes me laugh. When I've read all of the new-to-me Groo that I have, I start to go into withdrawal and I need to order another TPB or two from Amazon.

I may be one of the last people around here to discover Groo, but if there are any UY fans here who have never read it, I highly recommend it.

I am also guilty of being a Groo fan. Groo is the comic which got me reading comics again after I had initially lost interest in them.

Be sure to check out the cool Groo forum at:

I've enjoyed Sergios work for Mad magazine, although I didn't realize he had his own series then; to me, he was "just" the genius, who could use that tiny little space between panel and border of the comic for his funny one-shot gags.

Later I found Groo as a German comic and bought a few, but didn't like them enough to hunt down the English version (in fact, I was intimidated by the really lousy translation and thought it would contain equally low-level-language in English; little did I know...).

I've re-discovered Groo through UY, much like Jet_Jaguar, and I'm now trying to find all the TPBs to make up for my ignorance
