A basset hound would be awesome. I'd be interested to see what kind of character Stan would use for such a breed, since they're one of the goofiest and most loveable animals on the Earth.

I am very partial to cats. Maybe those flying squirls would be cool. Some kind of exotic Salamanders with those crazy patterns on them. They can go in water or on land. I don't know how frogs would work but it would be cool to see them use their tounges to grab onto things with.

I assume this was brought up already. Since it isn't very original. Monkeys!!!
Weather they are ninjas or something else. I picture a monkey ninja jumping out of the trees wildly swing 2-3 weapons in his hands and feet. Plus having his tail swing another weapon or flinging shuriken.

I would love a Chameleon in the storyline as a ninja. His animal traits lend him so well to being a ninja. He would be able to blend into any enviroment unseen. And he would be very adept in combat as Chameleons have independent control of their two eyes, so they could keep their attention on a lot of different targets at once.

Has anyone said Moose? I am thinking one big terrible angry Moose. Short temper. Keeps swords hidden in hollowed out antlers. Protector of the forest.

Your translation seems pretty accurate - "Orphan-maker"

I am not positive, but I think he is possibly a Hippo?

Uintatherium.

Thats what he is. A prehistoric Rhino. Fairly obvious. Clearly he was sent forward in time by the War of the World aliens to aid in establishing a social slaving system that would be easier to conquer. However, he met Space Usagi when the wormhole elongated and he was sent further in the future than intended.

He is a crossover character.

Just kidding. I have no idea what that guy is!
