I had a great time in White River Junction, VT and Portland, OR. However, that trip between those two cities was a horror.
American Airlines canceling 1900 flights did not help, but the big problem was the thunderstorms and tornadoes in the mid-west. Weather delays made me miss my flight in Philadelphia. I saw my plane backing out of the gate. Instead of a direct flight I got rebooked with a connection in Las Vegas. Because of weather delays, we sat on the runway behind two dozen other planes for 2 hours. We arrived in Vegas twenty minutes before my connection, but the hatch was stuck. It took US Airways 25 minutes to open the hatch so we could deplane. It was already midnight and the next direct flight to Portland would not leave until 11:30 am.
If I was Mark Evanier I would have taken the first cab into the city, but Vegas never held any appeal to me so I found a quiet corner and worked. I had written the stories for UY 115 and 116 on the way to Vermont. Now I thumbnailed those stories.
It took 29 hours from the time Bryan dropped me off at the Manchester Airport in New Hampshire until I arrived in Portland.
In Portland I got to see Cirque du Soleil, went to the comic show, and spent time at the Dark Horse offices. The last time I was at DH was before they were my publisher.
Wish me a good flight to/from Europe. I leave for Poland Saturday, and I'm still pretty apprehensive about flying.
