Samurai Film Question

I wanna buy a certain samurai movie I saw a long time ago but I can't remember what the name of it was. I thought you guys would know what this movie is: It starts out with a guy taking his grandson to a doctor who is moving away(I think) and the old man see's an old picture of a Shinsengumi guy and he remembers back when he was in the shinsengumi and how he and this guy were somewhat friends. And later on during a battle in the city the shinsengumi guy runs into smoke leaving the old guy to think he's dead. When actually he got married and his son is the doctor. ANd then the old guy leaves whith his grandson .

I think it was made after 2000. Ring any bells guys?

It is not one that I have seen, so I cannot say for certain if it matches your description.
