Thought y'all might appreciate this excerpt from today's blog entry, considering
it was your fault!
Last week, while visiting the Usagi Dojo Forum, I happened upon a thread
discussing the recently released NECA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle figures.
Now, I'm not exactly sure exactly what possessed me to read through
a thread about TMNT figures as I'm trying to do
everything I can to limit these kinds of purchases ("nae have the room!")
and I've got a set of TMNT figures packed away as it is, but click on the
thread I did.

(Stan Sakai's "Gulp")
Well, after picking my jaw up from the desk, I went a' hunting to see how
much these fantastic sculpts (based on the original Eastman & Laird
illustrations) were and finding that they were fairly reasonably priced I
had little choice but to make the plunge. I just couldn't pass these
fantastic sculpts of the original turtles up. They were such a big part of my
youth and I don't know that there is any better a representation of the
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles outside those first books than there is in
these three-dimensional figures. Or as Mikey might say: "So cool."

Thanks guys!

Got a set as well and Kevin signed the card you got with it (I couldn't justify lugging the box about on Thursday!). On the other hand I bought a copy of Bodycount and he did a free sketch of Raph in the front! Expect a shot of that at some point...
The demand for this set wasn't as bad as expected; it did sell out but there were still some left at the end of preview night unlike some other items now being flogged on eBay for high priced BINs...

Kevin was at the con--at the Heavy Metal booth. Peter did not attend, and has not been to San Diego for about 15 years.Marchino wrote:did Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird went to the Con ??? this year...??? oooo...man......

Abayo,
Marchino
However, Peter did sign and sketch on 500 postcards that were inserted in the black and white 4-packs. The cards were stuck in China (where the toys are manufactured), so he had to sign/sketch another 500 cards to overnight to NECA for inclusion in the boxes.

As Stan noted, the card that was given with the four turtle set. I'll be creating Flickr sets for TMNT and Mouse Guard in due course so expect some shots there. Kevin did sketches in Turtle books at the Heavy Metal stand viz a viz...

We really hope Peter changes his mind about travelling distances and does San Diego next year for the 25th anniversary...

So sweet
The Neca turtle figures are unreal. They are phenomenal. Every since I've been following this post I've looked into it more and more. Since I've seen the B&W versions I've been doggedly trying to find the best deal for a set of 4. What is different from the San Diego Con version and the regular B&W and I think there is even a 1.5 version? Anyone have the knowledge? I will own them!!!!
It sure brings me back to when they first came out in the mid-80's. That's when I started following Usagi too. I didn't have many UY comics as they weren't real easy to find back then, but, I am sure the first one I owned was the summer special #1. Every time I see one available I want to buy it, especially if it's in pristine condition. I was huge into Marvel so the B&W trend didn't bite me too hard. Sadly I sold off my entire collection around 1993 to pay bills and the industry had just been flooding the market with all sorts of crap that turned me off from it all. I got the itch again back in 2002 when the industry had righted itself solidly. Plus I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at that point and started reminiscing about the good old days and remembered how much I enjoyed comics so I was back. Thank the good Lord that I am cancer free still and loving life!
Oh, a side note, I have little to no artistic ability, but, I loved UY so much back in late high school that I tried to do my own drawing which was basically tracing and then trying to shade...lol. I have to go retrieve that and post it somewhere to see if anyone can identify what issue it came from.
Peace out,
Sean
Oops, almost forgot, hey b0bb33z3r, sweet wallpaper. I will probably use it!
