"Don't Cry For Me, I'm Already Dead" by R. Sugar

Post by Jet_Jaguar »

This short graphic story about two brothers who communicate entirely with Simpsons quotes (the title is also a Simpsons quote) is both hilarious and heartbreaking (You don't have to be a Simpsons fan, but it doesn't hurt). This is one of the best pieces of graphic fiction I've read online in a while. I never expected that dialogue from a Simpsons Halloween episode could be so poignant.

Excellent. It looks like it was inspired by voice actor Mel Blanc's near fatal 1961 car accident. Mel's skull was fractured in three place, and had broken bones, and was in a coma. He was non-responsive to stimuli, until a doctor started talking to him as Bugs Bunny. Mel answered in Bugs' voice. He eventually recovered, and credited Bugs as saving his life.

Interesting. I'd never head that story before. IIRC, on one of the Looney Tunes DVD sets, one of the featurettes mentions something about director Robert McKimson suffering a concussion in a car accident that did something to his brain that enabled him to draw faster and more accurately than before.

Wikipedia has an article about it. Scroll about a third of the way down the page:

Dear Readers,
Mel Blanc's tomb stone really says "THAT'S ALL FOLKS"?
How perfect.
Best wishes to all!
