Free Comic Book Day PREVIEW!

Post by Stan Sakai »

There will be a 6 page color story in Dark Horse's giveaway on Free Comic Book Day in May. I still have not decided what to do for this.

Well, what about a little short story with Space Usagi and Gen? We haven't seen that in a while...

That's true, however since 2009 is UY's 25th anniversary I'll do an Usagi story.

How about a story connecting Usagi & Tomoe with the "red string of fate"? I've had that story (plus a Komori and a kite festival) in my head ever since the Komori were introduced. :) I think it'd be really interesting if the whole thing was the normal b&w except for the string.

Will you be drawing the cover as well for the Free Comic Book Day book?

Wonder if it's going to be a flip book next year....

Any news on what other characters might be in the rest of the book?

they should throw a Groo cameo/pinup in there too.... :D

Sounds interesting... and someone no doubt I'll have to ask one of the fine people here to pick up for me

I've always been impressed with the stand-alone nature of the anthology stories. The ghost samurai on the bridge, things like that... an issue in miniature. I look forward to reading this one; those stories are usually what I give people to get them interested in UY.

Star Wars- The Clone Wars
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics

A special issue featuring the greatest heroes of The Clone Wars.

Also in the spotlight are Emily the Strange, Usagi Yojimbo, and other all-ages favorites.

Packed with 28 pages of story, the book bears two covers, one with the Star Wars characters, the other celebrating Dark Horse's best all-ages characters.

(W/A) Various
28pgs, FC

Who draws Usagi on the other side of the cover???

Sounds like a jam page with a bunch of DH characters...

:D

Our area comic shop did not participate with Free Comics day last year, because it does cost the shops some money, and he said it never boosted his sales.
And now, as of the end of this year, he is shutting down.
I've been told by a comics fan at work this means we will have no more comic shops in our area.
I don't suppose the current economy is helping with this at all....
But for those of you who will have shops that will be there for the next Free Comics Day, enjoy!!

Yeah, it's difficult for a comics specialty shop to make a go of it nowadays. They were popping up like mushrooms 15-20 years ago. Even Gary's closed up awhile back. Now he just does a few catalog orders. That's how I get most of my books.

If you are near Santa Cruz, Atlantis Fantasy Fair is an excellent comic store. They have a steady clientele from the university.
