Well, they had preferred weapons, but not so married to them as on TV-- I think it was Michelangelo who prepared a salad with a pair of butterfly knives. They were indeed more violent that their video incarnations, but not SUPER-violent. More like realiztic about what happens in a sword fight. They were also in living black&white, so the grue was muted. In movie terms, think Yojimbo rather than Kill Bill.

True, they weren't any more violent than they had to be, to survive or carry out their honorable sensei's request. Though I strongly suspect Raph tended to enjoy fighting more than anything. :P

Have to add, that the personality of Leo and Usagi are very similar: avoid violent conflict whenever possible, but when faced with no alternative, to do so without hesitation, and always with honor.

Pst-- Leo-san, it was Raph who used the butterfly swords to trim the tree, not Mikey. Yes, you can bap me for micromanaging, here.... :D

Between my brother and I, we've seen all the new TMNT episodes so far and no, the Usagi episode has not aired yet.

If they reintroduce Usagi, does that mean they're going to reintroduce the Genghis frog guys again too?

(groan) I didn't like those guys so much.

The appearance of Usagi is due at the end of the season. On the official TMNT website, the episodes are listed.

For reference, Episode 38 was on last weekend.

In Episode 52:
It’s down and dirty time. Splinter is imprisoned. Leo is dying of poison. Don and Usagi Yojimbo are fighting for their lives and the life of the Daimyo against a horde of assassins. Drako is about to gain big time power by getting his paws on the Daimyo’s warstaff. And, worst of all (from Raphael’s perspective), Mikey’s poised to win the Battle Nexus Tournament and become Battle Nexus Champion. Things couldn’t possibly get any worse... or could they? Remember the bloodthirsty Triceraton Republic? You will...

I don't know what to think. It does sound like it could be very scary = not so good. But then again, it may turn out to be a lot of fun. Obviously, if you are looking for hard core Usagi comic style, it's not going to be exact.

They are having a 3rd season, but haven't posted any teasers about next season yet.
Overall, I'd say they are doing a fine job on the cartoon. It's not quite on the level of the original comics, but it's the closest any movie or tv show or cartoon has yet gotten.

I was thinking.. arent Usagi and the Ninja Turtles a fair few decades, even centuries away from each other?

SHHHH! Shush!

AHEM

No of course they're not, and even if they were there are plenty of TIME MACHINES both in new york around the year 2000 and in Feudal Japan!

Isn't that how it usually happens? Someone somewhere always has a time machine that malfunctions, now that says to me if you can't controll your time machine doo-dad DON'T MAKE ONE, but there's always a Baxter Stockman or unusually smart turtle throwing caution to the wind, and before you know it, Samurais are running around in manhattan.

Come to think of it that happened in turtles three, and the time machine was from Feudal japan! Ha! Advantage Mr. Sushi!

Just as a generic bit of info, if you haven't already heard.
For the USA viewers, we won't get new episodes until Sept. 18. But if you missed the first part of the Big Brawl with young Usagi's short cameo with Splinter, keep your eye out for it. I think it's supposed to be on next week if it wasn't on this week.

The clip Stan showed us at San Diego Con of Usagi fighting with Don looked great! I am very much looking foward to seeing it.

Those toys are going to be released on the same day as the cartoon, right? Please don't tell me we have to wait a month after or something...

I don't know about toy release dates.
Even if you don't shop through something like Amazon, you might be able to find out about release dates in there if you look up Usagi.
I wonder if Playmates/Toy Biz has any sort of website listing for release dates. Either that or find someone who works in stores that carry action figures....
Usually I find out they are out when some of the more active shoppers on my message boards find them first. Then I know when to go hunting.
