Hayao Miyazaki to direct an Usagi Yojimbo movie! (Not real)
Wow, this is really exciting news! It turns out that Hayao Miyazaki has announced that his next project is going to be an anime film based on Usagi Yojimbo! Apparently, it's going to be based mostly on the Grasscutter story arc, but it will also include some elements from other storylines as well. I'm not sure when this is supposed to be out, but I can't wait! Wouldn't it be great if it came out at about the same time as the Groo animated movie?
Studio Ghibli has even released a little bit of test animation that Miyazaki has done for the opening sequence of the movie that tells the story of Grasscutter. It's really amazing work, possibly some of the best that Miyazaki has ever done.

EDIT: This was just a little April Fool's Day joke. If any of the moderators want to delete this thread, that's ok with me.

Sorry Stan, but news like this is simply too exciting to keep secret!Stan Sakai wrote:We were trying to keep this a secret, and announce it at the San Diego Con with a 10 minute trailer.
In case you're not excited enough, here's an interview with Miyazaki in which he discusses his vision for the film:

AW SWEET! I don't watch much anime anymore, but it would be very cool to see Usagi and Jei duke it out in high quality animation awesomeness! Arnold Schwarzenegger would make an excellent Usagi, by the way. (Joking.)

It seems to be an April Fool's joke though one that kills the dormant excitement every one here has that a UY movie were to be made! Though it could be a way for Stan to really pull out the surprise for the SDCC. Huh, April Fools Day has it's moments...Ronin-K wrote: WHAAAAT, dude, you're not pulling our legs with all the fake video stuff, right? This is a real plan, and not an April Fool's Day prank, right?

Now that April 1 has come and gone, I should say that a company does have the option for both an Usagi movie and TV series, but it is not Miyazaki. However, many projects get optioned, and very few of them make it to production. Even fewer make it to the screen. So don't believe anything until you actually see it for yourself in the theater or on TV.
