Hanafuda iPhone app!

Post by Maka »

Hello UYDers,

I am so stoked to have Hanafuda on my iPhone. I haven't been able to play in years, partially because I've forgotten how to score. But now I can brush up on my play. Next to teach my daughters how to play!

Cool Nintendo cards!!! LOL I have a deck which my Dad use to play when he was stationed in Japan. His were published by Nintendo before they started making video games.

I remember being pretty surprised when I saw an Ultraman episode from the 1960s where one of the characters had a deck of Nintendo playing cards. I was even more surprised to discover that the country has actually been around since the 19th Century.

Funfact: The word "Nintendo" means "Leave luck to heaven" (I just now spotted the word "ten," one of the Japanese words for "heaven," in there. You learn something new every day.)
"It doesn't matter whom you are paired against;
your opponent is always yourself."

The folks at Nintendo should take the chance with publishing a video game collection of Japanese board games like Hanafuda for their DS. Specially since there is a large number of Japanese culture enthusiasts over here.

I know they won't cause they think Americans do not get it, like RPG (their excuse for many of the cancellations in the past for Square games) but they could pioneer a whole series of Japanese culture introduction games, it would be great on DS since it is what they claim to be the most interactive portable game system out there. Specially now that they have upgraded it to have a stronger online hard wear built in for long distance WiFi.
