Questions for Stan thread!

Post by Winghead »

I wanted to make this easier so that when Stan comes on he can check this thread for questions rather than cluttering up the board with individual questions.

I'll start with:

1.Stan do you ever make it out to Toronto for conventions or anything. I would love to get some of my Usagi stuff signed

2. I have had absolutely no luck tracking down trades 8, 9 and 10, but I have 1-7 and 11-22. Will I feel lost without reading those 3 trades which apparently wont be out for another few months, or can I go ahead with 11 and be pretty much ok. I can't fins the loose issues anywhere either.

3. (not Usagi related but it is one of your projects) Will Groo ever come out more regularly than a mini every year or so? or is this something you can not disclose or don't know.

Anyway..don't want to take up too much time. I'm sure I'll find more to ask in the future. Thanks for the quick responses.

1. I have been to Toronto a couple of times. I actually declined an invitation this year because of my work load, but perhaps if I get re-invited next year I will be in a position to accept.

2. As Go replied, Heritage Source is a good place to get Usagi books. They do not have a brick-and-mortar store, but do mail orders and festivals. I am doing a signing with them on July 18, so if you order your books soon I will be able to sign them for you. Many members of the Dojo have dealt with Carolyn, and they all give her high marks.

3. Sergio's plan is to alternate between Groo mini-series and other minis. So, he would do 4 issues of Groo, then 4 issues of Boogey Man, then 4 issues of Groo, then 4 issues of Space Circus, etc. We are currently working on Groo: The Hogs of Horder.

Just request them to be signed, and, if you want them personalized, to whom.

Usagi, Gennosuke, and Tomoe appear in parts of a story I'm writing. Would you help me portray them "correctly" if I ever reach those parts?
Hmm... how to best express myself in signature form?

Well, I'm back. I need to get back into the series, been so long since I read volume 7.

Like many writers, I avoid reading fan fiction involving my characters. I do not want to be influenced, even unconsciously, by another writer's take on my characters.

Okies. It was worth a shot.

I am an event promoter in Toronto and I am putting together a multi faceted event next year celebrating independent music, film and comics, and I was wondering who I could talk to about possibly having you appear. I know there are many fine details and a message board is not the place to discuss this, but what would be the best way to go about possibly having you on board? It would be an honour to have you there in some way. In no way will it be a massive convention type event with hundreds of creators at different crowded tables. I am looking for a maximum of 3 comic industry creators that we can really hype and spread the word about their great work. My company is rather well known in the Toronto area, and has been organizing promoting and implementing various concerts and events for the past decade. There are no firm details yet. Much of the organization will be based on the schedules of the creators we are approaching.

by the way my email is info@paragononline.ca. If you would rather send your reply to my e-mail and start a dialogue about this there that would be fine too. Whatever works best for you.

If for whatever reason, this is not something permitted to be discussed in the dojo, please let me know. I am a fan first, and have tremendous respect for the fact that you take so much time to answer our questions and my reasons for doing this are simply to promote creative people and the work of whom deserves to be celebrated.

Dave Sim hit 300 issues of Cerebus. Erik Larsen plans on surpassing that number with Savage Dragon. Do you plan on taking Usagi that far or do you have an ending mapped out before that? I understand that it has to stay fresh and the stories need to maintain their quality but I feel like Usagi keeps getting better.

See question 25.

May not be the exact answer you are looking for, but it's a start.

You can find a lot of Stan related questions answered in the FAQ section.

Yeah I read that but I figure that might be a bit old and creators change their minds often so I wondered where Stan was at at this current moment

I didn't realize that question was almost 10 years old. Anyway, he basically said the same thing when asked about it in 2006.

Of course he could have changed his mind so I'll butt out of this topic. :)
