Hi I fan of Usagi Yojimbo but I've got some unanswered questions,
1: Does Stan Sakai change the names of historical batlles and Japanese state names in this Furry version of the Edo Period?,
2: Were are the Europeans in Japan?, during the Edo period specially the 1600's Spain and there allies were in a tug of war with the Dutch over the Japan's and Asia's trade.
my final question has to deal with the fact that Usagi is set in 1600's, however what about his son?, it take about 30 years for a human to mature into an adult which would push the timeframe to 1640 and the timeframe of the first Anglo-Dutch war. By the time Henry Morgan was active in the Spainish Main it would be late 1660's to late 1680's, and Usagi's son would be in his 50's and being a father of his own,

1. Not that I'm aware of.lwhitehead wrote:Hi I fan of Usagi Yojimbo but I've got some unanswered questions,

2. For the most part, Europeans were forbidden from entering Japan during the period when UY is set. The Dutch were allowed to do some limited trading at the port of Nagasaki (and maybe somewhere else), but that was about it. Things stayed this way until Commodore Matthew Perry demanded that Japan allow foreign trade in 1853.

1. For the most part, names of locations are real--Sendai, Edo, even Gombei Pass. As for battles, many are made up. There is an Adachi Plain in Sendai, but no major battle was fought there--not on the scale that I related.
2. There were Europeans in Usagi's time, but, as Jet Jaguar posted, they were relegated to a couple of port cities, such as Nagasaki. I did story notes on this in a couple of issues, the one in Contraband comes to mind.
3. Currently, it is fall/winter 1606, or 1607. There is a fairly accurate timeline somewhere. It was first printed in the Gold Rush role playing game.

Well if is 1606 to 1607 in Usagi Yojimbo then the Spanish haven't bin kicked out of Japan which happened in 1614, I would like to create an offical character for this comic a Dutch trader and captian of Dutch East Indianman. He would be of the Dutch Dike breed, and I would like him to wandering inter Japan to find a good deal for his trade that's how he would meet Tomoe and her Lord.
So he would arrive at the this forfied town with small group from his ship to trade such as Guns for goods,
