Well, last time paneltopanel had asked Sensei to do a piece of art (like a commission drawing) and included copies of this (the size of a normal post card or photo print out) with their sold copies of Book 23: Bridge of Tears TPB.

I think Sensei signed them after printing, so it would be an "original" signature...

"What is a book plate?" Hmm, tricky...; the Fantagraphics HCs had signed and numbered book plates glued into the finished books as opposed to the Dark Horse HCs where a special page is included for signature and number.
I don't know if paneltopanel glues their book plate in, too, since I had mine brought back from SDCC by Mayhem. Looks very good, too...
I wish I could show you a picture, but I'm not at home right now...

But look, dear Steve has provided us with a scan of it! Thank you, Steve :D

I guess the closest translation to German (haha  ) would be "Exlibris" , with the significant difference that it does not indicate the ownership, but is used instead to make the book special.

ooh man, I cannot wait to read through it!!.....
A bookplate, or ex-libris, is a print or label that is attached to or accompanies a book. It originally indicated the owner of the book, but now commonly is signed by the author. Some plates are "tipped in" the book, that is glued in as part of the the binding process so it is actually part of the book (like the Dark Horse HCs). Others may be glued onto a page (like the Fantagraphics HCs), or may be loose.

These plates will be signed by me.

paneltopanel.net wrote:The same bookplate which is being offered with Volume 23 is also being offered with the Fantagraphics boxed set. Stan is producing an all new bookplate for the YOKAI book, and copies of that book can be pre-ordered now at www.paneltopanel.net (in the EXCLUSIVES section). Order now, and you just may be lucky enough to have your ordered shipped in a Stan Sakai sketched envelope! (pictures are available on the Panel to Panel Facebook page and Panel to Panel blog).

I decided to buy a copy from panel to panel. With shipping the total was $19.90. There was no tax (for California, at least). I figure the extra was worth it to support a business that offers exclusives and the bookplate. Thanks Steve, for the link.

I will still buy one from my LCB store and give it as a holiday gift.

Peace, maka
