stan and vaughn bode?

Post by coolray85 »

hey sensei!I hope you get to read and maybe can find a minute to answer me....I was wondering if you have ever come accros the amazing work of vaughn bode and his infamous cheech wizard??I came to the question after thinking about the similarities between both of you being independant writers, drawers, creators and managers of your creations....
here's a link to a favourite cartoon of his war lizards from one of his early cartoon concerts in 1972.....it is called 'river meat'....and another link for a quick interview with his son mark talking about his relation to his father and his characters...very interesting....and I think there might be a possibility that you have at least met mark once since you know kevin eastman who became a friend of his....well?;)

I loved Vaughn Bode's work. I used to buy National Lampoon mainly for his strips. I remember picking up his underground comics--Sunpot; The Man; and, of course, Cheech Wizard--in head shops in the early '70's. I even have one of his original pencil sketches framed on my wall--Gangreen the Bunny Mummy one pager.

I never met Vaughn, but I did know his son Mark, a talented artist in his father's style.

Fantagraphics published some very nice Vaugh Bode books.

gangreen the bunny mummy dat was from his deadbone erotica strips, right?...it's funny how things repeat each other in different forms or for various people, you know?;)
...once I headed to my favourite comic book shop in munich(and there are only two in the city unfortunately) at the other side of the city to get myself a book...it turned out to be a bit cheaper than I had expected and so I stood there and thought what I could possibly get... when it came to me to ask the salesman for any heavy metal magazines...he had a collection of the very first issues for just a few bucks and I finally bought the ones containing these characters that I always wanted to read about growing up with a love for new yorks evolving graffiti, b boy and rap music culture of the early 70s.....vaughn bodes world....cheech wizard, the lizards and his beautiful belly'd broads...these images are very special for a graffiti artist, you know?....long before I knew or thaught of the fact that cartoon caracters are created and are not born like human beings;) you become aware of their existance and simply love their way....later you get to know who is the man doing them and are fascinated even more...

I know about them fantagraphics books, I was already tracking them down myself;).....right now I am waiting for my cobalt 60 books...
nice to know we share that love for bode, sensei!
