Usagi Yojimbo Encyclopedia

Post by jamesewelch »

Is there any UY comics that are like an encyclopedia or Official Handbook? I know that's not the right words\phrase for it, but imagine if there were one or two characters per page with a picture or two with descriptions. There's no stories in the book, just a list of friends and foes that UY has made over the last 25+ years. It would be similar to the "The Cast" link on this web site, but with actual artwork, relationships, statistics, and info from Stan.

Here's an example from Marvel:
Marvel's Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe

Is there any chance we might something like this as a stand-alone trade back/OGN? I wonder if there's a good demand for it.

The Usagi Yojimbo RPG released by Gold Rush Games back in 1997 had a very brief section about the various characters, and the newer Usagi Yojimbo Fantasy Role-Playing Game from Sanguine has an even larger section on characters from the comics. Both are really worth buying even if you never actually play the games.

As a fairly new fan of Usagi I think this is a great idea. And I don't think it would need to be anything too exhausting, maybe something similar to the old "Order of Battle" series that Marvel put out for G.I. Joe.

I'd buy one for sure, as long as it came out in tpb format, and wasn't too costly.

However I think, as facts, they could also include some of stan's most cherished storylines with the given character(s) ( i mean in which issues they appeared ) and that to me - would make this a no-brainer to shell out cash for.

i think it would be cool in book-format, for people to go buy.. Like the invincible guides for image comics.

hi!
as you're talking about projects for usagi's future something I would also love to see happen was a dvd documentary on the series you know talking about where usagi appeared first, what succes it experienced in the beginning and so forth, maybe personal insight stories and memmories from stan, sergio(arragones) or people close to the creative circle maybe even long time fans....I am thrilled when projects like this see release dates....when there talking about certain important story archs the camera could zoom in on covers, beautiful pannels or trade paper back painted covers for instance....I always love when comics are given proper treatment and respect like that and if a series exists as long as twenty six years ongoing, palease....I mean commooooooooooooooooooon!?!;)

There will be a profile or documentary on Usagi and me for my exhibit at the Japanese American National Museum to show in their theater. Filming started at the San Diego Con with interviews with Sergio, Max Allan Collins, Scott Shaw, Geof Darrow and others. Perhaps they talked to a few Dojo members as well. Other people scheduled to be interviewed include Charles Solomon and Stan Lee.

The film crew is scheduled to come to my home/studio at the end of September. I don't know if I'll have time to clean it up before then. There are stacks of books everywhere.

Stan,

wouldn't the lack of cleaning just make it more authentic for us fans?

that's right the film for the exhibition I thaught about it and wanted to include it in my post but my little nephew wanted to play with his uncle and I forgot about it...I guess it would be an unusual case but do you think they might want to release this film for others to enjoy who don't live near the japanese american museum and cannot see it?
the other thing that would make the future great for me was a collection of all nilson groundhumper stories....we discussed this once on the forum....
