Madrid Poster
I've been asked to illustrate the poster for Expocomic 2004 in Madrid. The convention/festival takes place in November in Madrid, Spain (see other thread). The one requirement was that I had to include the symbol of Madrid--a bear with a strawberry tree. Yeah, I had never heard of a strawberry tree either, but Sharon said her cousin had one. Anyway, the art is already finished, and it shows Usagi with a samurai bear in front of the tree which is stuck with arrows and shuriken.
I will also have an art exhibition at the festival, and there will be a new Usagi art book published by Expocomic.

Sweet! I'm soooo gonna be there...
Amazingly, I couldn't find a decent picture of Madrid's city shield, so this will have to do:

Here it is (the original symbol has the bear on the right and the tree on the left). The strawberry tree is called "madroño" in Spanish. It makes a kind of orange-red berry that looks kind of like a strawberry, but I really wouldn't call it that (it looks more like a raspberry to me).
Steve: I guess I could get my hands on a poster and send it to you. When we get closer to November we can arrange everything.

http://www.munimadrid.es/Principal/ciud ... index.html
In this
page there is a photo in witch the bear with the tree appears
At firs in roman times Madrir was called Ursaria derivated from lathin voice for Bear because there were lots of bears there
so the walking baer became a simbol of madrid.
Then there were some trees that passed to be possesion of madrid and the the treen with the climbing bear became a simbol

So if you want anything tell me and i´ll be gratefuj to help.

Sharon and I will be at the convention in Madrid in November. It will be our second visit to that beautiful city. I'm looking forward to drinking Bitter Kas and eating paella in the Plaza Mayor.Pekass wrote: Are you going to come to spain, if you do ill go to the convention to see you and have my comics signed

Thank you for your offer of help, but as I said, the artwork is already finished. I am sending a CD-rom of the art to the organizers next week, because they want to have some posters printed before the festival.Pekass wrote: i can help with the poster or other things so tell me if you wan stan-sensey i´ll be grateful to help with everything.

Uff paella at madrid a bit extrange, the paella is from the mediterraean although you can eat it anywhere in spain, you´d better try the "cocido madrileño" wich is famous there, or better "patatas a la riojana" with have the name of the region where i live and are very good.
And more, the paella is for summer while "cocido" and "patatas a la riojana" are better for winter.
I´m looking forward to the expocomic to come.
Will you have UY books in english, because by that time in spain there will be just until grasscuter1.
Will you publish the poster here also?

Thank you for the food information. One of the great joys in traveling is tasting the various dishes of the area. The last time we were in Spain was at the beginning of October, and the paella was marvelous (though the one in Northern Spain had a lot of beans which I did not care for). I have a paella pan and saffron, but have never made it myself, though my good friend Sergio Aragones makes a terrific paella on a outdoor grill.Pekass wrote:Uff paella at madrid a bit extrange, the paella is from the mediterraean although you can eat it anywhere in spain, you´d better try the "cocido madrileño" wich is famous there, or better "patatas a la riojana" with have the name of the region where i live and are very good.

I was not planning on bringing any English UY books, however I will do so if you want. I'll post a "what should I bring to Spain" thread when the date gets closer.
The poster will be printed in Spain specifically for the Expocomic Festival. The same with the art book. I think (though I could be wrong) that the poster will be given away free, but there will be a charge for the book.

Mmm.. patatas a la riojana... : )~~~~~.
But it's too warm for this season. Everybody knows that the best dish for the summer is a nice cold cup of homemade gazpacho

I would love to see this image
I am curious about the samurai bear. Sounds cool. Please let us know when it is viewable on the web!
