I have all Corto Maltese adventures (in french), it is a must have for any comic lover !
If you like big classic adventures (think R.L. Stevenson, F. Cooper or J. Conrad) and solid B&W art (think M. Caniff) you will adore Corto Maltese. Hugo Pratt is a comic master of the same importance than Will Eisner. It is great to see his work translated in english.

^Read someone on the CBR boards say the fault doesn't really lie with the US publisher, that these reformatted version were actually done in Europe.
*EDIT* Apparently Pratt himself was behind the reformatting. Worked on it in the early '90s in order to make the books fit a more marketable format. Check out the responses to the first negative review on the amazon page.
