UY ltd hardcovers proof copies?

Post by kesidis »

Gang,

I have a UY limited hardcover numberd PC 27.
Does "PC" stand for (artists') Proof Copy?

Also, I recently bought UY hardcover ltd ed. vol. 4 (1990) no. 24/1500.
It had Stan's red stamp kanji signature on the tip-in plate with the drawing.
Was this another artist's proof copy and if so, how many were there?
My later numbered (in the hundreds) one does not have the hanko.

Many thanks for any info,
George

PC stands for Publisher Copy. AP stands for Artist Proof. Don't know about the kanji stamp, Stan should be able to answer that one.

Book 4 was the first volume we did a hardcover for, and I did use a hanko on some of the earlier numbers. I found they were just taking too long to dry, so stopped using it.

Kim, my editor at Fantagraphics, told me they would sell just a couple hundred copies of the HC, so I told him I would do a drawing in each one. Orders came in at 1,500. I did a full figure in each one. Took me three full weeks to do. I still do drawings in each HC, but I limit it to head sketches on the tip-ins--except for one, on which I do a full figure on the blank back. I have never met anyone who has one of these.

I don't recall you ever mentioning this. That's pretty cool.

A while back I purchased a Space Usagi HC from you that has a full figure sketch on that blank page. Would this be what you are describing?
