Oh Goody! New York or something nearby would be most welcome because flying to NY is pretty cheap and that would mean that I could put my filthy hands on you! Finally!

Now that you say it I recognize themStan Sakai wrote:The artwork was posted a day earlier than I was told. Sorry.
The woman (# 7, I think) with the hat is Tomoe.
The other (ninja) is Chizu.

Artists have to develop, I know that. That also means that fans will change because the old fans don't like the new style anymore but one gets new fans for that who couldn't stand the old style (I find the two usagis in the middle of the uppermost image on file:/home/digulla/www/usagiyojimbo.com/public_html/usaghist.html pretty ugly, for example).Stan Sakai wrote:I sometimes play with art styles and character designs on these drawings. Some of them are pretty strange, though I did not give these to DH.
Well, I'm thinking about getting two of your drawings but, well, the price stops me to do this right now :-/ Aw, what the heck, it's only $200.
Do you ask the same prices at conventions? In that case, I'd have to get a platinum card first (or as Robert Asprin did put it: "If you plan to spend a 7-digit figure on something, then we would appreciate it if you would notify us one day in advance -- only if that's convenient for you, Sir, of course."

Aaron,
I'd like to start my own gallery. Can the Usagi web site host the pictures for me or should I try and find some other place to host them?? Also, I have a commissioned piece by Sergio Aragones of Groo, Rufferto, and Usagi that I'd like to put up for people to enjoy. I'd prefer it goes in that gallery instead of "Fan" art. Would this be possible?
Thanks

Re: Gallery Page
Actually, I prefer to host them. There is was a grendelized Usagi by Muffin Man and we only have the thumbnail left because the page it refers to has been deleted. If we host them, we know what is available and what is not.Gaffey wrote:I'd like to start my own gallery. Sure, as long as the pic is UY related, I see no problem in hosting it. I'll just add the extra copyright info about Groo.Gaffey wrote:Also, I have a commissioned piece by Sergio Aragones of Groo, Rufferto, and Usagi that I'd like to put up for people to enjoy. Some infos about Galleries: Images must be below 100KB. Pixelsize is not that important and I'll create the necessary thumbnails.
Since the UY Dojo has no upload area, it might be best if you sent me your pictures by email.

any chance of more art at DH - pages and covers?
stan-
at the DH website, it looked like they had some of your original painted covers and original pages for sale. of course they were all gone before i could get any of them - a few of the painted covers and the splashes looked wonderful!
is there any chance DH will have more available on the website? living in Kansas, I do not get out to many of the major comic shows except for the once-a-year KC event, so i cannot buy art directly from you at the comic shows.
keep up the great work!
Kirk
BTW - I never did get to thank you for the double-gatefold kite cover poster you sent to me - thanks a bunch! i have it in a small frame hanging in my computer room!

Re: any chance of more art at DH - pages and covers?
Right now, Dark Horse has black and white art for sale. There will be another batch that will be posted in a few months that also will be black and white. I just do a couple of paintings a year, usually water colors, so they're rarer and harder to get. There are no plans to sell more of them through the DH Gallery at the moment.boochydog wrote: is there any chance DH will have more painted covers on the website?

thanks for the very quick response. i have looked at the DH gallery site and can only find a few sketches, but do not see any B&W original page art available. the B&W original pages and inked covers i do see are all sold. i just want to make sure i am not missing anything there at the site.
actually, i prefer your B&W original page art pieces as they show off your inking skills and attention to detail better than a color watercolor piece has the ability to do (plus they are a little less pricey). if you are anyone on the board can help me out, please let me know.
i hope i can find a nice interior original art page or B&W original art inked cover someday.
thanks, kirk

I do not sell my published interior pages, at least I haven't yet. The pages that have been available were, with very few exceptions, unpublished story pages.
Sometimes, I find that a scene or a cover is not working for the story. In these cases I would redo it. I did two versions of the cover of UY 39 (Grasscutter prologue), one with Susano-o astride that giant snake (the printed version) and one with Usagi on the snake (David Gravatt bought this one). There was a nice one-page gag in the story about the seaweed farmers that had to be taken out because of space. There was a page redone for Images From a Winter's Day because I thought of a better way to convey the change of seasons.
Some of my revised pages were in The Art of Usagi comics from Radio a few years ago.
