Dear Readers,
While we save up for the box set, please be aware there are 18 of the 25 movies on Hulu...
http://www.hulu.com/search?q=zatoichi
Perhaps they all will be available on Hulu eventually?
Granted Hulu is not as good as the Blu-ray.
Viewing the Criterion Collection on Hulu is the least expensive, legal way to see many great Samurai films.
Just a thought.
Best wishes to all.
go

ps. the anime on Hulu is also amazing( currently i am hooked on One Piece & Tiger and Bunny.....)

I am so looking forward to finally reading the original short story by Kan Shimozawa that started it all. And finally seeing the documentary by John Nathan. I also am looking forward to Chris D.'s synopses of all the films (probably pretty similar to what he wrote in his recently released "Gun & Sword" book on yakuza films.

Even though I already have the full Home Vision Entertainment collection, and the AnimEigo set, I can say without a doubt that I will be getting this Criterion Collection. It's good to see that film 14 "Zatoichi's Pilgrimage" will be included (I've never seen it).

If nothing else, this looks like it's going to have the most beautiful Criterion Collection packaging ever:

Preordered mine from Criterion. I never bought directly from them before, so I was a bit surprised that the price was much better than compared to Amazon. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to getting it.... it's my Christmas present to myself this year.

Currently $112.00 on Barnes and Noble's web-site, that is 50% off retail and over $80 cheaper than Amazon.

Unfortunately, still too expensive for me right now.

At least I can say that I already have all 26 films on DVD, as well as 94 out of the 100 television episodes.

Would it be possible for someone who has purchased this set to help me out with a copy of the Kan Shimozawa short story from the booklet?

I would very much appreciate it. :)

Yeah, I saw that B&N sale a few weeks ago. Criterion sent out an email announcing it.... but I had already pre-ordered my copy from Criterion directly.... should have waited. LOL

I should be able to copy the short story for. Shoot me a reminder if I forget.

I did receive my set a couple of days ago, but haven't had a chance to check it out yet. Hoping to take the shrink-wrap off this weekend!

For anyone who doesn't have a copy of this yet, the price on Amazon just dropped to about $140, which comes out to about $5.30 per movie, which makes that a pretty nice deal.
