Re: Usagi short film
The Usagi short film on You Tube is teasingly AWESOME! I can't wait for the DVD. Put me down for 2. The closest I have come to having an animated version of Usagi is the old Commodore game. Was the Ninja Turtles appearances of Usagi ever available on DVD?
Re: Usagi short film
I have to say I find this stop motion style is great at capturing the style of usagi stories. Sure I loved Usagi's cameos in the ninja turtles cartoon but this stop motion seems to bring the comics to life like never before. If we are lucky enough to get a Usagi TV show or something one day a similar style will do very well.

Yes, they are available on DVD. I have the one which features (I think) 2 Usagi appearances...at least his first one. Classics.mochison wrote:The Usagi short film on You Tube is teasingly AWESOME! Re: Usagi short film
leonid, I agree with you!I always had a passion for stop motion animation on movies or animation..I absolutelly love the 'foreigness' this technique brings to the objects being animated...they look surreal and real at the same time to my imagination.so I'd love if usagi would get a bigger stop motion animation feature out of this project one day.leonid wrote:I have to say I find this stop motion style is great at capturing the style of usagi stories. this would really give usagi a special or outstanding visual look that the comic book stories of him deserve when he enters a new medium.
and usagis appearances on the old turtles cartoon have been released on dvd.over here in germany the enterprise ksm released very well reviewed dvd box sets of this show and usagi appears in episodes 50 and I think 51 or 53..very close to one another.hope this will help you out.

Between one thing and another, I haven't been on the dojo site in months. What a nice surprise to learn of this film project upon my return.
The teaser trailers look great, and, if it's all right, I'd love to share this youtube link with some friends in the arts.
One thing I noticed was that when the door slides open, it makes a squeaky hinge sound. On the one hand, I can see using the hinge sound, as a culturally-established suspenseful element, to convey an emotion to the audience. But on the other, it can seem jarring given that the door would not make that sound.

Hey guys, just wanted to share this announcement with the dojo members first: I, along with my production company, have been granted the exclusive rights to make an Usagi Yojimbo FEATURE FILM!!! We're currently hard at work to make this a reality, so stay tuned. Happy Easter

Out of curiosity, and because I don't have a clue, does this mean that Usagi has FINALLY moved beyond just being "optioned" for a film?

Re: Usagi short film
Congrats
If it's stop motion like the short film, I'd imagine (based on Aardman timescales with Wallace and Gromit) we won't see it before end of 2015, but I live in hope

Re: Usagi short film
That is awesome news. Films take an incredible amount of work, money, talent, collaboration, time, and resources. I imagine there is a lot of financial risk involved. I wish your production company the best as you start exploring preproduction of every Usagi Yojimbo's fan dream. I can think of no one better to take on this on.
Good luck!
Peace, maka
