Wouldn't work. There are too many pages. The book would need to be printed on very thin paper that would not do Stan's artwork justice.

Even if you disregard the vast size a single tome of Usagi Yojimbo comics, the fact that the series is far from over would make it pretty silly.

Has anyone seen the size of Jeff Smith's complete 'Bone' book - Only 9 books in all, and it's massive!

As long as Dark Horse keep on publishing the collected editions with as much care as they seem to be doing at the moment, I'm quite proud to have them sitting on my bookshelf!

18 books and counting down to the next one!

I like the TPBs better...for some reason, the single issues seem to be...cheapened somehow (don't kill me!). The paper is thinner, and for some reason it's just not the same looking to me. But I prefer to be able to have volumes instead of individual issues anyway, so I'm sure that ahs something to do with it.

I've found that the slightly smaller size of the tbps enhances the artwork (which, as you've mentioned, is also helped by the higher quality stock).

Stan (if you're reading this!), was it a deliberate decision to make the collected works smaller?

Fantagraphics started collecting the Usagi stories long before "graphic novels" were popular. Store did not know where to display such books. However, trade paperbacks in smaller formats were around (popularized by such books as Kliban Cats, and 101 Things to do with a Dead Cat). To get them on the shelves, we formatted the collections into those trade paperback size--midway between a pocket book and comic book size.

Even with the current popularity of graphic novels, I still prefer the smaller size.
