Looks really awesome, just by looking at the cover. *drools*
But hmmm... a bit expensive for me to be honest ($125 is roughly PhP 5600), guess I'll have to save up much longer.

I hear you! It is both a great and a tough last 12-18 months to be collecting Usage Yojimbo as there have been all of the HC Saga releases, the latest HC volume release, the Yokai, not to mention the new Gallery Edition. If you were to buy all of these it is well over $500 dollars! Very worth it if you are a collector and have the money, but not cheap!

Re: Usagi Yojimbo Gallery Edition Volume 1: Samurai
Is it limited at all?
Also, I am just interested, on these "limited" editions I notice a lot of AP editions. Does anyone know how many "extra" copies are printed?
Thanks,
Joe

You can now place a preorder over at InStockTrades (actually DCBS). 40% off of $125.00 = $75.00
Dark Horse books are usually 42% off when listed on InStockTrades. If you're willing to take a chance of them having extras to sell you could save an additional $2.50.

I don't know how accurate this page is, but the initial reported sales for Dark Horse books are around 500 each.Crookerdog wrote:Is it limited at all?

How can LCBS compete with that price? I've already ordered one from my local store and have been shopping there for 25 years and love the owner. But if I wasn't loyal to him and his local business, I'd cancel my order with him and buy on-line. $50 savings is significant. Peace, maka

I'm in the same boat with Maka. If I wasn't a loyal customer trying to support a local business I'd be tempted to give IST a shot too. Who doesn't want to save money? But I also want to keep my local shop in business. They provide service I can't get elsewhere. But if they do ever close down, I will be greatly tempted to use IST.Maka wrote:How can LCBS compete with that price? Just because you save $50 on the Usagi Yojimbo Gallery doesn't mean you can't spend that money at your local comic shop. Buy some titles you've never read, get comic supplies, maybe a toy or two, etc.
I just realized DCBS charges for shipping, but if you buy it after it's released at InStockTrades you get free shipping.

Stan signed 1725 tip-in plates for the UY Saga that was numbered to 1500. That makes 225 "extra" copies.Crookerdog wrote:Also, I am just interested, on these "limited" editions I notice a lot of AP editions. Does anyone know how many "extra" copies are printed?

Re: Usagi Yojimbo Gallery Edition Volume 1: Samurai
That is a good point. However spending $125 at the LCBS is different from spending $50 there.Gaffey wrote:Just because you save $50 on the Usagi Yojimbo Gallery doesn't mean you can't spend that money at your local comic shop. Not that I am solely responsible for keeping my LCBS in business. From everything I heard on PW Comics World podcast, comics business is better than a few years ago. I was worried that digital comics would eat the LCBS business alive. But digital has increased the audience for physical comics. My LCBS owner said that business is good. Not great but he is not in danger of closing down any time soon. And he is taking a vacation soon, so that is pretty good for a private business owner.
I think it is fine to buy comics on-line, eBay, digitally (which I have bought a lot of), craigslist, garage sales, at your LCBS, etc. I buy from the LCBS because my relationship with the owner, my loyalty they have earned by providing me services for 25 years, and I like the idea of keeping the money I earn in my community. Probably most people don't have the same LCBS experience. I have no judgment on how others spend their money. I was just reflecting about how on-line cost savings makes it difficult for the private business owner compete.

Peace, maka
Re: Usagi Yojimbo Gallery Edition Volume 1: Samurai
That's true, but if you put that extra money into other books, then those titles may not be canceled and not only are you supporting your LCBS, but you're supporting artists, writers and their families.Maka wrote:That is a good point. In all seriousness, I hope he gives you at least a 10 percent discount. Almost all comic shops that I know give discounts if you are a subscriber.

I pre-ordered mine from Amazon, so it won't be here for a few weeks. Really looking forward to it, though.
