Anthrocon Report

Post by Stan Sakai »

For a look at our experiences at Philadelphia's Anthrocon in July, take a look at:

http://www.livejournal.com/users/unclekage/

Sam Conway (aka Kagemushi, aka Uncle Kage) is the chairman of Anthrocon. He has a fun little website himself.

I sometimes write or draw con reports. This one will be in the Comics Arts Professional Society (CAPS). Some others, such as my Norway, France, or Belgium reports, have also seen print.

Nice review. The comments on Uncle Kage's site are interesting to read. Stan, will you draw this review too? :D .

Kage is one of the most interesting people I have ever met. How many people do you know that have straddled a dead whale in a freezing harbor? Check out his website. He has a bunch of his stories on there.

He is one of two reasons that I plan on attending Anthrocon in 2005, even though it takes place just days before San Diego. I can't tell you the second reason yet. Actually, there is a third reason--that creme brulee really was good. Daughter Hannah ate most of mine, and I plan on getting one all to myself.

Why can't you tell us the 2nd reason? Does it have anything to do with UY and a possible movie? :-)

It doesn't have anything to do with a movie--very little to do with Usagi, actually. It's more personal than anything. I'll announce it here once I get the green light.

That used to be the case, but not anymore. "Green" is "midori", or "midori-iro".

Is he the same person who posts on the Dark Horse Manga forum under the name Kagemushi?

I don't think that is the same person. From what I know of him (and that is still fairly little), he is not into manga. He does have eclectic interests, though.

My second reason for attending the 2005 Anthrocon has been announced on their website. The Guest of Honor next year is my good friend Peter Laird, co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He rarely makes con appearances, and I acted as the contact between him and the Anthrocon staff. Going to the con is a good excuse to see Peter again.

The Anthrocon web address is:

Awesome news! My guess was that you would get the GoH, but Peter is also a great choice. Let's not forget that TMNT started the whole B&W explosion that paved the way for furry success in the early/mid 80s.
