Usagi "Trivia" Challenge Sept. 25- Oct. 3
Hi!
This week's trivia challenge is a bit different. The challenge is to pick a favorite page from the Usagi Yojimbo Coloring Book, color it, and post the results here. Any medium counts: marker, crayon, pencil, paint, or even digital. If you do not want to ruin the pristine condition of your book, feel free to print off any Usagi drawing done by Stan Sakai and color it. The contest will be judged for creativity, balance, and composition. I will do a watercolor (or ink, if the winner wishes) commission of any one or two Usagi/Groo characters on 11x17 bristol for the winner. Second place will receive a sketch card sized watercolor drawing, also of a character of their choice. Third place is the same as second, but will be in ink as opposed to watercolor.
You can find my work in the Ronin Ramblings section under the title "The (Still Improving) Artwork of Randy Clute," where I must apologize for the lack of Usagi-themed artwork. If anyone needs an extra day or so to finish their piece, please let me know and I will be happy to oblige. The winners commissions will be drawn soon after, and depending on homework and extra-curricular activities, should be finished and shipped in one to three weeks past the end of the contest.

Wow! What a generous prize you're offering! I'll have to look around and decide what I want to color!

Yeah, I may just have to try and scan a page from the book to try and colour in some way...
With a breeze comes a storm, but then you'll all be washed away...

Interesting challenge!
I can't see the coloring book in many webshops over here, so I'll have to see what I can find on short notice. Hopefully something that won't involve trying to jam a Saga book into a scanner!

Suggestion: If people don't have the coloring book, could they make a photocopy of an Usagi page and color it? Peace, maka

Yes of course! I tried to include that in the instructions, but I guess it was not clear. The only rule is that the art has to be done by Stan Sakai.Maka wrote:Suggestion: If people don't have the coloring book, could they make a photocopy of an Usagi page and color it? Peace, maka

While cleaning my room I found a double of Marvel's Groo #4, so I will throw that into the first place prize package.

I have my setting on Photobucket rather low so it doesn't blow up on this forum. But the details are lost in the lower resolution upload. If you are on Facebook, you can see a better quality upload. Thanks for this contest. It got me to break in my UY coloring book. That was fun and relaxing tonight. Peace, maka

Wow! That looks great. I really like all the detail put into the background, especially that it fades from Usagi's Mong to Stan Sakai's little Usagi symbol. I also like that you colored the ground blue, it really brings out Usagi and makes it where you can tell, without prior knowledge of the series, that he is the titular character. I am also glad it was relaxing, I thought of this contest because when I was really little I won a coloring contest at Brookshires and it was really fun.Maka wrote:
