General discussion about Usagi Yojimbo, the comics, the stories, the characters, collectibles, TV appearances, Stan Sakai, Space Usagi, Nilson & Hermy, and all other related topics.
Got my issue the other day from my local comic shop, and sat down to read it that same day - something I don't normally do, but I wanted to read the Chibi Usagi story....
Death by Fugu was great, and boy-oh-boy, what an ending. It was nice to see Toto-san again and Inspector Ishida too.
But the highpoint for me was the Chibi Usagi story. Fantastic! Funny! Cute! Kawaii! Oh wait, that's cute again...
All I can say is I want more, MORE! MORE!! Chibi Usagi needs his own series and specials and coloring book and merchandise and, and, and.... Thank you Stan and Julie and Chibi Usagi!
ALSO.... what's that I read on the intro page?! Stan and Usagi are taking some well deserved time off? Has this been discussed before? Did I miss something? What will I do?! But really, I'd like to thank Stan and Usagi for bringing some fun to my life all these years. Enjoy your time off! See you soon! Abayo!!

Would you mind posting what you are referring to? I don't have the comic. Several months, a year?!
I'd guess the break is moderately short, as Stan already posted the cover process for the post-break issue #161. Seems to me the cover would likely only get worked on once an issue is complete. The cover process for #160 was posted five months before the street date, so maybe we're looking at the next issue in May?
I was wondering that myself, but can't for the life of me guess what it could be...
maybe some usagi chibi stuff?..okay, I initially HAD a quick assumption upon reading those lines...what if by some magical comming to their senses again-wonder the financiers of rokus surrendered movie project concluded that whatever was missing to go ahead with that usagi movie were now pulling together at that string in one direction?;)
Im so sorry for roku's dream of a movie...for me there need not be an usagi movie in this world (most importantly because akira kurosawa can no longer make one himself;)...) but he had so much effort and passion going that its quiet a shame it fell through in the end;(
I've been having fun reading speculations regarding the mystery project. However, there is a roadblock in the negotiations so I have continued working on Usagi. I am about halfway done with UY 162.
I did tell a couple of Dojo members about this project, but promised them to secrecy as talks with the trademark holders were just beginning and they wanted to announce it themselves. I still hope we can get things ironed out.
The covers are drawn far ahead of the actual stories. That is why sometimes situations or characters are changed between the time the cover is done and the story sees print, such as was the case of the first appearance of Inspector Ishida. He was tall, and very heroic on the cover but it was not working in the story so I redesigned him to his present form.

Ah, I had wondered why the Usagi line of designer colognes and toiletries for men we talked about hadn't come out yet. I was looking forward to enticing the ladies with my glorious scent of Gen #4, or perhaps a zesty dash of Zato eau de toilette for Men. Oh wait, I probably wasn't supposed to mention those, was I?
I've been wondering about this too, hoping it wasn't Usagi-fatigue, though 'well-deserved break' is an apt description! And wondering if the project was something like Senso or 47 Ronin. Although...

... this sounds like something different. Not a comic miniseries? In any case, I hope the problems are smoothed over.

It's always good to see Inspector Ishida! Sakai-sensei writes a good mystery, and the sakana shogun is another welcome addition to the cast. I'm looking forward to see what happens with the plot around Nobu Kinnosuke and Hasu Daida from #159.
