Madrid--what to bring?

Post by Stan Sakai »

I don't usually post this thread for my European visits, but there were some inquiries on another thread.

So--if you are attending the Comic Expo show in Madrid at the end of November, is there anything special you would like me to bring? I do not have extra Dojo t-shirts, but I may have a few of the older, full color shirts. They are a little more expensive--about 15 Euros. Other things I have are 2005 calendars, cloissone pins, free posters, comics, etc.

Hopefully I'll be able to bring a brand new UY Artbook to get it signed, but if it's possible, I'd love to get a 2005 calendar (shipping costs are higher than the calendar's!) and a poster.

On a completely unrelated note, does a poster from that double-paged monster pin-up in "Inn on Moon Shadow Hill" (UY book 14 "Demon Mask", first story) exist/has existed/will exist? That frame must be my favourite of all the series.

Stan, when are you going to come over to the UK then?

C'mon...Madrid's only a couple of hours from the UK. Hey, I'll pick you up, put you up in a nice country farm house, give you breakfast.

In return, you can feed my dogs (they'll like that), and do a little drawing for me... ;)

But seriously, have you any plans for a trip over to my neck of the woods?

Hi JoeK,

As much as I would like to visit the UK someday, there are no plans right now to do so.

But when I do, I would be happy to do a little drawing for you.

The Art of UY has been delayed once again--one of the difficulties of dealing with overseas printers--so much so that there is question whether it will be availabe in time for Christmas. The Madrid convention though, will be publishing their own UY Drawing book. It will be availabe at the convention for a modest fee. There will also be a poster featuring a new watercolor painting. I don't know how those posters will be distributed. I will, however, bring along a couple of other free posters in very modest quantities. If you are a Dojo member, please identify yourself as such. You'll get a poster as long as my supplies last.

There is no poster of those pages from Moon Shadow Hill. Sorry.

Well, in that case, I'll bring another book ("Grasscutter", most likely). I'll make sure to wear the UY Dojo t-shirt that Todd so graciously sent me to identify myself ^_^ .

Stan, do you happen to know what your schedule will be? I won't be able to be there for the whole con - I'll arrive to Madrid Friday afternoon and leave Saturday evening, so it would be great to know at what times you'll be avaiable for sketches and signings. Thank you very much :D .

That would be a huge coincidence.

Sorry, I do not know what my schedule will be. I probably won't know it until I get there. However, if you see me walking around the hall, come on over to me. I usually don't mind signing a few things, unless I'm on my way somewhere and running late.

Or I could put a picture of myself right here in the Dojo, so not only will Sakai-sensei be able to recognize me, but the whole dojo will if I ever find any member walking around Barcelona 8) . However, in order to maintain sanity and avoid general panic and horror in the internet, I will hide my identity for now ;) .

OK then, thank you for your answer. Also, will you be selling those drawings that appear on the comic back covers? And for how much, more or less? I'd love to buy one or two of those.

Heck, I've already got a picture of me as an avatar. It's not so good for spotting me in my quotidian walkin'-round-town mode, though.

I do not have many of those left after the conventions season, but I will bring what I have. Prices range from 50-100 Euros. I'll also bring some covers--those go for much more.

But remember, I'm happy to do free sketches, especially in books.

I've also been asked to bring drawings and watercolor paintings for an exhibition.
