Usagi Contest for the week! February 1-7

Post by Slashuur »

Welcome to another Usagi Contest!

This one is about helping our dearest fellows The Woodcutters!
They finally wanted to settle down and they found a nice patch of terrain to build a house(FIG.1).

They always dreamed of having two children of their own, so they wanted to build a house with 4 rooms of the same shape, one for each member of the family. The first step was to put wood stakes in a grid of squares in the terrain to make it easier to see how they were going to build their new house(FIG. 2).
UsagiTrivia2.png

They have 5 ropes to stretch in a straight line between the stakes to make the final design of their new house.
So let's help them!
We need to use all the terrain and use the 5 ropes or less.
PM me a photo/diagram of your answer and I'll let you know if it's right :)

I hope I made it clear for everyone. If you have any doubts or have troubles seeing the images, I'll answer as soon as possible.
Again in this one we'll make use of the Randomizer if there are many answers.

Good luck!

So the correct answer should have four equal rooms inside of the green figure 1 and only four equal rooms?

Yes, divide the terrain in 4 rooms/areas with the same shape.
And you must use the stakes of the figure 2 to stretch your ropes between them.

:? I must be a complete idiot because it only takes me two lines to divide that shape into 4 exact segments. If we use the two stakes you have outside of figure 2 do they count as part of the house even though they wouldn't appear in the solid green portion of figure 1?

Mayhem must be an engineer or I just don't understand the question.

Erm, I did graduate with a Masters in Engineering btw

(albeit it was Chemical, not Mechanical heh)

My best advice is read all the text and rules carefully in post one, and submit your answer heh...

Well, you can do it with 5 ropes or less :)
Just trust your instincts and submit an answer, Gaffey

This week's contest has come to an end. Thank you all for participating.

There were 2 correct answers in this puzzle. Here they are:

In both, the terrain is divided in four equal shapes(the size didn't matter). The Woodcutters must now be happy to know how to build their dream house

Now, the members that submitted a correct answer:

1.- Mayhem
2.- Warren
3.- Gaffey
4.- Steve Hubbell

And the moment of truth!
"Oh, dear oracle of randomness, let us know the winner of this week..."

  That's where I slipped up! That gave me trouble 'til I went with the basic X.

Thanks Slashurr. :) It made my head hurt but it was a great challenge. Now I've got a bit more thinking to do.
