Mad, utterly mad... no, not the auctions. I've gone and bought the splash page. I'm probably going to regret this now (and my credit card IS going to hate me), and I think I'm going to have to sell a few things less important in my videogame collection to help pay for some of it in the short term (I've also got a substantial payment due for some writing work recently completed that will help), but let's face it, it's an unused page, it's a PAGE full stop, which we know come up far far less often than covers, and it's from fricking issue #2. Is it the most important and impressive thing I've ever purchased in the world of comic art? The preliminary pages from TMNT issue #1 will probably argue, but of anything published, most definitely.

So yeah, I'm crazy, but I think you lot rather knew that by now...!

Congrats! I was going to bid on that page but got busy and forgot about it. That's just fine, as it went a bit out of my price range. What a fantastic piece to add to your collection. :D

Thank you. It will be going to a very good cause. My friend, Bob, is selling his collection because his wife is terribly ill and they need the money for medical expenses.

A really awesome addition to your collection, Mayhem!

Stan Sakai Usagi Yojimbo #2 Unpublished Splash Page 11 Original Art (Fantagraphics, 1987). The Bushido bunny had just gained his swords in a contest of skills, now he went to live in the forest and meditate as Master Katsuichi had advised. This alternate page went unused, and unseen until now! It's a great looking page with a battle-ready Usagi. Created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". It is signed and dated in the bottom right. In Excellent condition.

Your thanks are much appreciated Stan, as I knew that despite the outlay, it was going to a good cause. The one thing in my favour, slightly, is that as the auction has been at the end of the month, I am likely not to pay for it until the start of next month, and thus I have an extra month to raise some money for it to decrease the interest payments on my credit card heh.

Does anyone have the results from the two colored pieces that were also up for sale? Thanks

I expected the two colour pieces to go for around a grand each (before BP), and I was about right there. If I hadn't won the splash page, I was going to bid on one or both of those instead. Steve's post is an interesting one, as it shows many of the Usagi items that have been sold on HA over the last ten years, starting with the piece in the bottom left corner that I wrestled into winning at the time (and thought, am I really spending this much hah hah?!). But you've only got to look at the piece in the bottom right corner from 1987 (which I also won) that was auctioned four years ago and compare that to the prices just now. Sure, the pieces in question here were more dynamic even though they weren't quite as old, but maybe this is a sign that Stan's stock is gradually rising after all these years, given these were not cover/frontpiece art...?

No, it's not. It is the only cover from that series that I want to hold onto. At least for now.
