Usagi Trivia for May 18th - May 24th
Okay, here we go, something that will require a little brains and a little research, and maybe a bit of Googling, depending on what Usagi publications you own heh.
I'm looking for a word. The word is the nth word featured, in a particular panel, on a particular page, in a particular Dark Horse issue. So here are some clues to hopefully guide you towards the answer. Due to the nature of this, I may allow more than one guess per person, but for now, one guess only period. Please PM me when you think you know what the word is.
Dark Horse issue number
The last published issue of Usagi Yojimbo, on the inside cover, states "Number X in a series". Take X and subtract the actual issue number from it, to give you the issue to begin looking for the word in.
CLUE: You don't actually need to have the latest issue to hand to work this one out. Any issue from about the last 20 should help here...
Page number
The number of full colour Usagi Yojimbo comic issues there have been since Fantagraphics #1.
(this does NOT count "The Artist" release as it was a compilation of existing material, NOT new material for that issue)
CLUE: Is it an illusion? Maybe, but there is also something special four you here too.
Panel number
The number of students Katsuichi had taught prior to Usagi himself.
CLUE: Look to the story that was redrawn.
Word number
The number of issues taken to tell the origin "Samurai" story to Gen.
CLUE: You know how hungry Gen would get, but he only ate half the total amount.

I've had one submission so far, which while incorrect, was reasonably close. Is this contest too hard perhaps?

Does the Spanish FCBD comic count as full color? Unless you are one of the few people to get one you wouldn't know the answer to that.

It's full colour, but by virtue of how I've worded the question, it's not an issue of Usagi Yojimbo, and thus does not count.Gaffey wrote:Does the Spanish FCBD comic count as full color? Unless you are one of the few people to get one you wouldn't know the answer to that.

Ok, I assumed since it was titled Usagi Yojimbo and it says it was published in 2017 then it counted.
My father always told me never to assume anything, but did I listen?

Okay, just to help matters along, I've added a clue to each puzzle, that might help or confuse you further hah hah...
I'm also allowing those who have already entered (there have been a few, with no correct answers so far) to submit another guess...

Actual proper issues, that are counted as part of the sequencing for the series (which relates to the number mentioned as part of the first puzzle). I've tried to phrase the question as best as possible to eliminate the most ambiguity heh. There's a good reason I've specifically said "Usagi Yojimbo" here too...Gaffey wrote:Ok, I assumed since it was titled Usagi Yojimbo and it says it was published in 2017 then it counted.

After a discussion with Steve H, I'd realised I'd made a conclusion and forgotten to note it in the question re the calculation for the page number. Thus I've added it to the first post, and allowed Steve another guess.

Re: Usagi Trivia for May 18th - May 24th
Okay, time to call a halt on this week's quiz. I had quite a few entries, but only one correct answer. And that goes to... surprise, surprise... Steve H!
So a quick breakdown of the calculations needed...
Issue number - For a while, on the inside cover, it says "X in a series", so the difference between X and the actual issue number is always 66 for now. So you needed to go look into Dark Horse issue #66 here.
Page number - This is what caught out pretty much everyone bar Steve. There have been four Colour Specials (excluding The Artist), but the entire Mirage run of 16 issues was also in full colour. So the page number you wanted to be looking at was 20. I deliberately worded the question to exclude any issue that wasn't called "Usagi Yojimbo", such as any third party comics, AND the Space Usagi series too.
Panel number - In Tomoe's Story (the original version in the first Colour Special), Usagi mentions that he is one of only three students taught by Katsuichi. Given Stan forgot to correct the dialog in the speech bubble when redrawing the story (because at the point that the story actually takes place chronologically, compared to when it was originally released, Katsuichi is already onto student #6 then), then the only way Usagi could know the number of students Katsuichi had taught is if Katsuichi told him. Thus Usagi must have been third in line, and the answer here is 2.
Word number - Samurai story was in eight parts, but across four issues. So the answer here is 4.
Once you process all that, then the fourth word on panel 2 of page 20 in issue #66 is... Jotaro!

I actually re-did all the math last night, and just spaced to email. Lol.
My luck. Great little brain teaser. I completely forgot about the Mirage run for colored issues
