Stan has illustrated three non-Usagi (non-anthropomorphic) samurai era stories so far.....

"47 Ronin: The Tale of the Loyal Retainers"
47 Ronin #1 - 5 (Dark Horse)
November 2012

Image
"Oni"
Strange Tales (Marvel)
January 2010

----and the answer I was hoping for....

Image
"The Soul of the Sword"
Shi: Kaidan (Crusade)
October 1996

And no need for the random number generator since no answers (correct or incorrect) were received for this week's contest. :(

That was a tough question. I'd imagine only a few people on the DojoBoard even own a Shi comic, let alone know Stan drew a story in it. I remember when issue 1 came out in the 90's and that's about it.

I was pretty confident 47 Ronin wasn't his first.

Same, and I had no clue about how to find the correct answer.

I don't think the Shi story is listed under the "Official" bibliography created by Steve so I also had no idea where to look for it. He's sneaky.

I knew 47 Ronin and Oni (I own both), but I knew there was something before it, and couldn't recall what it was. I don't think I own that issue of Shi, but I have seen that page before. Curse my failing memory heh.

One of my favorite things about the trivia is learning all sorts of obscure Sakai/Usagi facts. Good job with this one Steve!
