June Trivia Prize Pack

Post by jabba359 »

A bit later than usual, but here it is.

As always, thanks to Stan for all the items he has donated for these giveaways. They wouldn't be possible without his generosity. Special thanks to Gaffey for all the items he's donated. More thanks goes out to all the artists who have been kind enough to provide original sketches for the sketch cards. Finally, thanks to all of you for participating and making this a great forum.

So, how does one win a prize pack? Here's how:

*Participate in the weekly trivia as you normally do.
*The winner or winners (if more than one) of the weekly trivia will be entered into the monthly prize drawing. If you win a weekly trivia question and don't want to be entered into the prize giveaway, just PM me and I'll exclude you from the randomizer at the end of the month.
*The winners of the trivia that ends during the prize month are eligible (for example, if a weekly trivia ends on April 30th, you qualify for April's prize pack, if it ends May 1st, you'd be in May's drawing).
*As people win the weekly trivia contests, I'll update the list of all the winners (in the order they won) and then use a random number generator (https://www.random.org/) to select the Prize Pack winner.
*I will announce in this thread who the prize pack winner is and contact them via PM for shipping info. International participants are welcome to play along.
*Participants can win two months in a row, but for the sake of spreading the love, any weekly wins on the third month will not count as an entry into the monthly prize pack. Back to back wins have only happened twice in the two years I've been running this, so winning three months in a row would have been possible, but unlikely. This just ensures that outcome is avoided. Thanks for understanding.
*These rules are subject to change on subsequent months if there are bugs to work out.

Here's what's up for grabs (remember, if it's signed in the picture, then the item you receive will be signed as well). Items are not to scale :D :
*note: the t-shirts are misprints, with the image not being perfectly straight, so if you get a shirt and Usagi is slightly crooked, that's to be expected.

About the artist - This month's original Usagi sketch card is by Travis Hanson, who always asks me for a blank sketch card every time I see him at a convention so he can contribute to the prize packs. Travis is the Eisner nominated creator of web comic The Bean, described as an "epic fantasy tale of a dishwasher." Besides his work on The Bean, Travis has written several other books, contributed to The Sakai Project (page 132), and recently successfully crowdfunded his kitty vs alien card game No Mercy. He is currently working on his new Dungeons and Dragons themed comic strip book called Life of the Party: The Realities of an RPG'er.

June entries:
1. Gaffey
2. Chaz West
3. Gaffey
4. Randy Clute

Sorry for the missing image of the prize pack. I'm on the road and Photobucket just sent me an email without warning that they no longer allow 3rd party linking of images unless I pay $400 a year. Not gonna do that. So this month's picture is showing up as not available (though oddly all my previous pictures also hosted by them are still up). I'll start hosting elsewhere and will just have to re-link all my pictures, which will take some time. edit: moved the image to flickr.

That said, it's time to do the giveaway! Using the magical -and still free and functioning- random.org randomizer of randomness, it randomly randomizes the following random number:
26 June prize.jpg
26 June prize.jpg (43.39 KiB) Viewed 2556 times
Congrats Gaffey! The odds were in your favor and the statistics worked to your advantage!

Yeah saw that earlier this week my account too, silly Photobucket, you can't compete that way now with so many other options.

I have deleted all my images from photobucket and closed my account in response to their new "terms of service" and am now looking at flickr for image hosting. Absolutely hated photobucket from day one, royal pain in the bass to work with, made my Explorer browser crash constantly, and all the pop-up ads made me paranoid I was going to end up with some kind of computer virus or something.

What is wrong with Photobucket? All the images I just posted for last week's challenge still work. Why wouldn't yours?

If you find something better than photobucket, please post here. I only use them to post photo here. But I find it difficult to use their website and frustrating. I would be willing to post more photos if it wasn't such a pain to use. Thanks! Peace, maka

Oddly enough, only my most recent photo (for this thread) wouldn't load, instead loading an image from Photobucket telling me to upgrade. As far as I can tell, my older images are still intact. I changed the image for this over to Flickr in the meantime, while I explore other hosting options.

To echo others, the Photobucket interface has been terrible for years, running slow and overflowing with ads (AdBlock helps a bit). If they had a reasonable priced tier where I could host images, I'd probably pay anyway so that I don't have to port over and re-link all my images, but $400 a year is insane.

Considering you can host your own files for a tiny fraction of that cost, precisely. Maybe Photobucket think that with so many photos uploaded there already, now charging people (and btw I NEVER got the email with the new ToS information) that they'd have people over a barrel and they'd pay because it's too much hassle to download and rehost the images. Considering I used it for mostly throw away third party linking, then no skin much off my nose there!
