How can I get a Stan Sakai Commission? NEED HELP!
Howdy Usagi fan fellows,
My husband is a HUGE Usagi Yojimbo fan. He is a long time collector and just about has his collection complete. His 40th birthday is coming up and I have been trying to find a way to see if it is as all possible to get a Stan Sakai commissioned sketch or work made just for him. I don't know the proper avenues to do this so if anyone could help me I would most thankful.
He is a professional conductor and pianist, and of all the things that could land at the bottom of his elaborate bio, his love for "Usagi Yojimbo" resides as the last sentence.
I would love an opportunity to get a personal commission, maybe Usagi with a conducting baton? If this is an impossible request maybe someone has a creative UY gift idea that I haven't thought of. He has every comic, and the full books, and also sketchbooks.
Thank you fellow fans!

Re: How can I get a Stan Sakai Commission? NEED HELP!
Welcome to the Usagi Yojimbo Dojo forums, SarahSue, and sorry for the difficulties during your registration. For some unexplained reason, some new account activations seem to get hung up in the pipeworks and need a little kick to get them going.
Your post here is a good start to potentially getting a commission since Stan Sakai is a frequent reader and contributor to these forums. Of course, commissions depend upon available time and that is controlled by deadlines.
In the past, commissions were only available for pick-up in person at convention and book signing appearances, but with the establishment of the on-line shop on Stan Sakai's Official web-site - http://stansakai.com/product-category/shop/ , that requirement might have changed.
The next (and final) convention appearance of this year on Stan Sakai's schedule is Baltimore Comic-con, Baltimore, MD: September 22-24
Hopefully, your husband isn't also a frequent visitor to the forums here, if this was supposed to be a surprise gift.
Good luck!
PS
You can also send your request directly to Stan Sakai himself through the forum's private message (PM) system.

Sounds good, hope luck is on your side
Stan produced a surprise piece of artwork for my 40th birthday, and it ranks as one of the best things I've ever got as a present

Good luck, you have the right idea! As a huge Usagi fan if my fiance (got engaged the other day
) did this for me I would lose it! If Stan ends up being too busy check out the market section on here, a lot of original art auctions get posted there and I bet he would love that also.

Thanks Maka
So Sarah I did a quick ebay check for original art and this is what I found
Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/352093741820 Seller wants a lot for it, but perhaps if you contacted him he would let it go for less. It says seller is away till sept 16th but as its the 17th should be able to reach him.

Welcome aboard SarahSue!
I'd just like to add one other thing, and I'm not sure how Stan is handling things these days, but I've had several "Quick sketches" done. These don't take as long as a full on inked commision and tend to be less expensive. Just another option for you to consider.
You can see some of my quick sketches in my gallery discussion. http://www.usagiyojimbo.com/forum3/view ... f=9&t=5965

Stan Sakai (or Daniel maybe) posted a link to a new page on the Stan Sakai web-site for requesting / ordering commissions....
http://stansakai.com/comissions/
It provides a category breakdown with price estimates along with submission and payment procedures.
