I remember accidentally insulting Stan by suggesting he based this story on Neil Gaiman's Sandman. I apologize again, Stan.

Today, I believe all stories are based on old stories. The struggle, the suffering, the journey, the hero, the interdependence and interconnectedness of all of life is universal. Some great artists, like Stan, are great at retailing these stories in unique, fresh, and delightful ways that feel new. Because of these artist, we can enjoy and learn from these stories again and/or for the first time.

Or I could be wrong.
