Usagi Yojimbo #56 Cover
Looking for some info on the cover to #56. I am in the process of purchasing this and I think its pretty neat that Stan made a note on it: "To My friend Dan Spiegle, with best wishes - Stan Sakai" Just wondering if it might have been maybe like a thank you to Dan from the CAPS auction or something. Just looking for some info. Stan told me that it is real, but didn't elaborate as to why the note or anything.

Dan and Marie were friends and he had mentioned that he did not have any of my art, so the next time I saw them I gave them the art. They were such a lovely couple.

Thanks Stan, I'm having it shipped to me on Monday, another beautiful cover to go with the 148 I just bought. I'm really glad to have this info to go along with the piece, i think it adds so much more to the piece!! Just to know that it was yours, then went to Dan is fantastic. It will probably be in my collection for 20 years atleast. Thank you

Re: Usagi Yojimbo #56 Cover
Stan,
I remember him back in the 80's doing DC work mostly, atleast what I can remember. I would love to have something from his Weird War Tales or even his 90's Scooby Doo.
But I am honored to have this piece to add to my collection, it is a special piece. As I said, just knowing that this was a gift from you to him means so much more to me now than just being an art piece. Thank you.

And this is another example of what makes this UY Dojo the best fansite on the web. Great background and new knowledge about someone I didn't know about. I'm interested in those Maverick comics now.
Congratulations on your second UY cover. That's truly a one of a kind piece. Peace, maka

Thanks Maka.
I am really glad to have found this site. I use to read Usagi back in the 80s, havent picked up a book since. But, I always loved the character, the art, and the history, so I have alot of catching up to do. Just 2 years ago I got back into comics, maybe 9 months ago into OA. Been looking and looking at just what I wanted, and I came across the 148 cover on Stan's site and had to get it. Then I found Dave Karlen's site with the #56 cover and loved the full figure of Usagi, read to whip some butt!!! But the inscription at the bottom of it was the key for me, it was such a simple yet friendly message. And now to have the full story of it from Stan is just awesome. I will cherish this piece for many years.
As for this site, WOW. I am learning alot. Just ordered the Usagi Gallery Edition Vol 1. Cant wait to get it. The good thing is I really cant remember the details on the stuff I read back then, so this will be all new to me!! What a great new world to relive again!!

Welcome to the forum RB3!
Those Gallery Editions are pretty awesome to read. They're perhaps a bit unwieldy due to their size, but I enjoy seeing the art at full size.

Re: Usagi Yojimbo #56 Cover
Welcome
I had been half tempted by the cover to #148 but I was budgeting until recently, well still am hah, until I’m over the probation period in my new job. Then I might have some spare money to spend!
There’s often some comments or drawings on the back of the covers, here’s issue #127 that I own (you make also recognise it as the cover to Saga #7) with a sketch on the back! http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiec ... ece=881530

Re: Usagi Yojimbo #56 Cover
Saga Book 7 was actually a recreation of the issue #127 cover, completely redrawn and painted by Stan Sakai.....Mayhem wrote: .....here’s issue #127 that I own (you make also recognise it as the cover to Saga #7)....
PS
I love the cartoon on the back!
