Hi folks I need to know about Feudal Japan Money,

Koban: worth one Ryo, both coins are Oblong shape which no one is willing to explain why there shaped like that, also it's worth 60 Mons or 60 Silver coins

Silver Coinage: in Feudal era Japan what type of Sliver Coinage was used,

Copper Coins are Mons,


So what is the buying power of each type of Coinage?,

I don't think your 1 Koban = 60 Mons is correct. Using the Tokugawa coinage standard (from 1601-1867), 1 Koban/Ryo = 4 Bu = 16 Shu = 4000 Mon (copper).

1 ryo did, however equal about 60 monme (not copper Mon).

As for buying power, Wikipedia says this:

...the koban, which was equal to three koku of rice...

1 Koban is the same as 1 Ryo. So 1 Ryo would buy 3 Koku of rice in the mid-1500s. Doing some research, 1 Koku of rice is approximately 330 lb (150 kilos), or enough rice for one man for a year. So a Ryo would buy roughly 1000lb (450 kilos) of rice. Doing the math, 1 Mon would buy you 1/4 lb of rice. By the 1800s, 1 Koban/Ryo would get you approximately 1 Koku of rice.

Since the "Feudal Japan" period covers a huge chunk of time and there were huge monetary value swings during that time, I'll assume you're looking at the period around 1800 (one of the more popular timeframes for storytellers to use). So I need to know Copper Coin, Silver Coin and Gold Coin,

Were Copper Coin also called Zenki?,

The other problem is that Sengoku Period Coinage is unlike there European counterparts they don't have the rulers's face or a coat of arms on them,
