General discussion about Usagi Yojimbo, the comics, the stories, the characters, collectibles, TV appearances, Stan Sakai, Space Usagi, Nilson & Hermy, and all other related topics.
And what its the first thing we see when you open the comic? Perhaps the biggest and boldest splash page I've seen yet in all my years of collecting Usagi.
Wow.
Wont spoil, cuz we're all fans here. We know the story is awesome.
Just wanted to drop a line about how excited I am about the direction Usagi is going.
As a member of the Usagi community, yesterday felt like a day that is typically reserved for a major new movie release or the return of your favorite TV show after an intense season finale. It had that "event" feel after seeing all the pictures online of people getting copies and sharing their excitement.
Great beginning to the IDW era!
I also had a wow moment when I opened up to the first page.
Loved seeing this all in color. Paper quality was good and overall very impressed with it all.
I'm normally the only one at my local shop that gets Usagi but the owner said he had multiple requests from others to add it to their list. Not sure how many will continue on but I would imagine that the changes and marketing from IDW will pull in many new readers and hopefully it will lead them to search out the rest of the Usagi catalog of stories.
I usual wait until a story is complete before I read the various issues, but I couldn't wait to read this one. So far, I really like the story and seeing it in color is nice. Tom Luth did a great job coloring Stan's art. I am REALLY looking forward to the next issue (and the next, and the next, etc....).
I won't reveal any of the story or interior, except the inside back cover which shows all the variant covers...
If anybody is looking to get any (or a set of all three) retailer incentives, Jak's told me they still have a few of the Eastman covers available (and the other two, or course). They gave me a really good deal on a few sets (the ones I got are already spoken for), but they said if you want to contact them, drop them a line on Facebook and tell them that Kyle from the UY Dojo pointed you there way. I don't want to quote a price on here, but let's just say they were way lower than anywhere else I've seen.
It's so great to have Usagi back. Full color all the time will take a little getting used to, but only a little - it is Tom Luth after all!
Ironically, both this issue of Usagi and the new issue of Hellboy, released the same day, are closely thematically linked. I don't want to say how, because it'll sort of ruin a twist.

Also I'll miss having Julie doing back covers, but if unintrusive ads will pay for full-color issues, I'll take it.
Yes, that is actually the first thing I did. I flipped the book over and had a little moment of internal sadness, but then I enjoyed the book entirely. The back cover art was a nice little surprise after the read. Excellent issue and I loved it!
