Usagi Yojimbo Action Figure

My U.Y. toy came today! Cool! Push a button on his butt, and he swings round at the waist! Woo-hoo!

Too bad none of my Leo toys do the same-- though I have a flipping one--

I too got this figure recently. I have to say, though I normaly find commercial toys to be lacking, this Usagi fiure is terrific. You can not mistake it for any other character. It truly captures the look of Usagi from the comic.

Infact I'd go as far as to say, it looks alot better than the Antartic Press figure that came out so many years ago.

So glad you loaned Usagi to the TMNT once more Stan.

I just wish that more studios would accept that some cartoons need the gritty stories they were rooted in. That is my only complaint. Yes this new and latest TMNT is probably the closest this side of the first movie. While I acknowlage it was initially a satire on the comics of that decade, it also had its own darker side to it.

My point being is that, yes I am excited that Usagi again has made his way into the TMNT cartoon, more so this time around than that old poorly animated 3-stooges version of the Ninja Turtles. What I'd be more excited about is if the studios could say hey, lets offer up what is offered in the comics exactly in terms of enviroment. I enjoy watching the latest version of TMNT but, always in the back of my mind is "Wow Leonardo, Rapheal, and Shredder will never be allowed to use their weapons the way that they would be trained to use them as, to their full extent." Not as often at least. And in Usagi's time and place, as all us fans know, there is alot of tragedy and death.

On the other hand, it excites the fan in me to know that Usagi gets another chance for exposure to an audience who may not even know who he is, YET.

I agree with you. Leo, Raph and especially Shredder are allowed to use their weapons if they are against robots, weapons, or if the action takes place in the Battle Nexus (Raph actually delivers a finishing blow to "Ring Boy"-- just as he is transported out of the arena, while Shredder kills Master Yoshi off-camera, after seeing him raise his claw weapon to a cringing Yoshi just before the blow-- even Usagi, in B.N. was allowed to slice through his opponent-- just as he vanished). And they have allowed a certain amount of death as long as it's in an explosion or off-camera.

But look at what they did with Samurai Jack-- he could slice the heck out of anyone as long as they were robots. I have students who have sat through both of the Kill Bill movies several times, yet it only takes one person to get upset about cartoons. South Park gets away with so much by being deemed "adult", but something like U.Y.-- all any animation company would probably see "kids show" because of talking animals.

Still, there is always hope-- if a creepy show like "One Piece" can "show" characters being wounded with swords, perhaps a fairly decent U.Y. cartoon would be possible.

Still-- at this point, in my opinion, any Usagi is better than none-- with the possible exception of the original Turtles cartoon-- blech!

I had to order mine over the Internet because I couldn't find it in the stores here-- and it is so way cool! I'm working on how to time it so when I push the button to make him swing, at the same time my back-flipping Leonardo will go just at the right moment!

Who else has that taller one. It's around 8inches I think. I forgot exactly. Anyway, I have it. It sits well in my office at work watching over all. I think that is also an excellent figure.

While I do agree the Usagi action figure from the original TMNT cartoon was not as endearing, I actually enjoyed the other Usagi figure series. He came with Spot! How cool was that? I thought they did a good job capturing Usagi in terms of comic book look.
The new action figure is a very good likeness of the current cartoon appearance, so I like it, too.

It's great fun to have some UY figures around with a few TMNT ones...and some LotR figures, too.

I have one of the older ones as well, but mine wasn't affiliated with TMNT, that I know of anyway. I kept it in its box until the heat from storage melted the glue, now it keeps guard on my penguin collection on the shelf.

I just found a pic of it in the collectables gallery, here it is...

I've had it for close to ten years now.

The only one I ever remember seeing is the one where he looked as if he'd been on a steroid diet-- blech!

Spot I consider to be the better part of that package. It still like that in my Usagi collection but, I still feel that the latest one has a better shape to its head and such, much more reprentitive of that characters outline than the older one.
