And don't forget that many hackers don't use their own PC but first crack some other boxes and then start their attacks from those. So the police might actually knock down the doors of some innocent fool who doesn't know about firewalls and malware scanners. Therefore, I suggest that the ISPs should have a look at their logs. That will usually mean that their accounts will be closed or, if they are kids, the ISP will tell their parents ... and then close the account.
Hi!

Sorry for my stupid catch word cracker or hacker. It is of course doesn't matter so much if we look for all of this situation.
I have a question: if i stay all the time in my computer log in to Usagi Yojimbo web site, then if some cracker break my security connect and hacked this site under my ip address??? -note: i am connected by a router, which divide my internet connection.

and another question:
It is possible in future, so will be (on the left site in home page) instruction about a security for real beginners UYD members? (for example explain shortcuts like ISP and other) and a e-mail address for Shinobi's or to people respons for security and all the alert (to inform Shinobi by first person who see something wrong)? (it is only my proposition)

AbaYo!

Not really. Usually, such an attach works in one of two ways:

1. They install a keylogger on your computer. Then, they can see any key you press (and thus see your password, when you log in). This is why banks use TANs (transaction numbers) which are valid only once (so even if a hacker got it, it's useless for him).

2. You log in via an Internet Cafe or the like and forget to logout when you leave.

Browsers cache your login (so you don't have to type in your password every time you load a new page). The browser cannot tell if you are leaving for a few minutes or forever and when the next customer sits in front of your computer and you didn't log out (see the link in the upper right corner?), he will still be "you" as far as the Dojo is concerned.

He can then read your private mail, post under your name, etc.

I think the "don't leave traces when you are in an Internet Cafe" is the only thing you really need to worry about, if you always install the latest patches from Microsoft at home (or whatever company sells your Operating System) and you keep your virus scanner and firewall up to date. The times when the Internet were a nice, cozy and a place to explore without having to worry are almost over, I fear.

As for an contact in case of an emergency, note down my email address or Todds or, of course, by posting on the board. And believe me, one of us two will notice very quickly when the board is down :-)

PS: ISP is an Internet Service Provider.

Hi. I've been missing for a few days and I didn't even notice the defacing. Good job on gettin everything up again so quickly.

I noticed that on the board, the "next thread" link at the top right is missing, and there's "::" instead.

The message board at Image Comics' site was also hacked. I don't know who the hacker was. The board is down for maintenance right now.

This is probably a dumb question, but it was just the forum that was hacked, right, not anything with anyone's personal info?

Just curious-- especially as I am tired of getting email from earthlink regarding "spam" that I have "sent", thanks to whoever is routing it through my address or however they are doing it.

That is hard to say. The hackers had admin access to the forum, so they could have seen all this but I cannot say; the logs just show that they were in there, not what they did.

It might be a good idea to change your password, though.

Yeah, the Image site was down and supposedly (I got the word from a post by Mr. Kurtzman on his PvP site that a number of other comic-related forums were hacked. This was posted about a day or two before the DojoBoard went down. I very impressed with Aaron's quick handling of the situation. I don't post much but I enjoy hanging out in this neighborhood.

Thanks,
Dave
