Graphic Novels/ Trade Paperback Help

Post by Krablauch »

Hello, I'm new here and I have a quick question. I love Usagi Yojimbo, he is totally cool. I just bought the first 4 books and was wondering if those comics in the books are the same that are just a single comic. Or do they contain entirely diferent stories? Thanks for the help.

The books are collections (chronologically) of the comics. Plus you sometimes get some extra stuff from other sources that wasn't in the main comic to boot.

Oh ok, so if I were to buy all of the books. They would contain all of the comics correct? And thank you for your help.

Yes, except for the 4 UY Color Specials, which have yet to be reprinted in TPB format. The Trades collect the UY stories as they were published chronologically (starting from Albedo, then Critters, then the UY Comics). Stan has even added extra pages to integrate some of the stories into the trades to smooth out the transition and not to confuse new readers. That is why Stan is considered not only the nicest, but the most intelligent guy in comics.

The Green Persimmon (color special #4) was included in one of the books already. Just the stories in the first 3 color specials have yet to be reprinted.

OK, since you had to ask, give me a moment here to dig up the pertinent information...

hum de dum de dum...

OK, here it is:
Usagi Yojimbo - Book 11: Seasons (Mar / 1999) pages 167 - 190 (24pgs.) reprinted in b/w

actually, it is or was listed on the Dojo at:
http://www.usagiyojimbo.com/other/stori ... immon.html

Now to ask a question in return:

Do you know what the beginning and end issues of Diamond's Preview catalog Green Persimmon was serialized between? Which month and year did it start and end? I've got the actual pages out of the first four or five catalogs, but they don't have the dates on them.

I don't know. I did not keep those issues of the catalogue.

The three color specials from Fantagraphics should be reprinted (without color) in UY Book 22: Tomoe (tentative title).

I actually found the info about 10 minutes after I posted the question... on one of the old Usagi Yojimbo Dojo news pages. The first part appeared in the September 1996 issue and the last part, 11 months later, in the August 1997 issue.

Abayo...

So, if someone have all TPB's, he can say that he has ALL Stan Sakai Usagi work?!

Except for first 3 color specials, off course?

Yes, the trades collect all of the Usagi stories, including those done for other publications such as the one-pager in Oni Presents, appearances in those Dark Horse anthologies, etc.

UY Book 19 will take us all the way up to UY vol 3, #75 in the comic book series.

The three color specials will make up the first part of Book 22.
