Yet another question for the Dragon Bellows Conspiracy

Post by Angelcake »

You know, its funny how the lack of supply can increase demand.

This seems to be the case with the Dragon Bellow Conspiracy. It seems that everyone wants a copy, but its still out of print!

I just want to ask if there is any information at all on a reprinting. This novel length tale is a required part of the Usagi canon.

Can anyone answer my question?

I really can't but I did want to comment that I noticed the image for it at Amazon.com changed recently, even though you still can't buy it through them. Fantagraphic's website also lists the book with the image that Amazon's has changed to, and you can add it to your cart and (presumably) buy it there. I'm assuming that's the reprint.

The Dragon Bellow Storyline is collected in Book 4 of the collected story editions, the paper back version had been reprinted several times over the years and I think it's due to be reprinted again very soon.

However the 'sold out' version is the signed and numbered hardcover limited to I think 500 copies. It had a painted story that until the "Art of Usagi" was released had never been reprinted. This is the version that so many die hard Usagi fans are scrambling to get and why they fetch such high prices when they show up on eBay.

Actually the hard cover was limited to 1,500 copies. It also contains the painted story "Return to Adachigahara Plain." This story explains how Usagi got his facial scar.

The answer to your question is simple: the immense popularity of the DBC lies in the fact that the story revolves around Tomoe Ame. 8)

The image of "Team Usagi" running forward was used for the first printing of UY Book 4: DBC. In subsequent printings, it was changed to the art featured on the hard cover edition. Fantagraphics will be reprinting the book in a couple of months with the original cover, and a new cover design. The design will be used for the other Fantagraphics editions as they come up for reprinting.

I notice that Amazon currently lists the price of that book as starting from $289.95. I assure you that the new edition will be much, much cheaper.
