Yup....I really appreciate the free feeling of Stan Sakai's artwork ...

The hatching and line work seem laid down so casually ....Yet the construction and design are so solid...especially the backgrounds....

I would love to be able to draw so freelyin ink....But like the link said "Years of Practice"!

I am ingnorant of Mr. Sakai's process....Are the drawings roughed out in pencil - or just drawn directly with ink?

As with almost all comic book artists, the drawings are first penciled. The pencils are not as tight as when I first stared, though. The only artists I know of who sometimes did not pencil are Joe Kubert and the late Alfredo Alcala.
