San Diego--what to bring

Post by Stan Sakai »

Okay, it's still more than a month before the BIG con, but I just shipped off UY 87 to Diana and thought I'd take a week off before starting #88 and get organized for San Diego. If there is a particular issue you are looking for, or a trading card, or one of those cast figures, or even a piece of art, note it on this thread or send me an e-mail.

I'll have most, if not all, the trades and most of the hardcovers. I'll also have artwork and those Spanish sketchbooks. New things coming out for the con are: UY Sketchbook #2, a 2006 calendar, and a very limited edition print from DH. The print is a large, high quality s/n edition of the image from the cover of The Art of UY. Because of the low print run, they do not plan to offer it through Diamond.

One neat thing about this con is designer Cary Grazzini will be there. Cary doesn't travel much, but he is nominated for an Eisner for his work on The Art of UY and so he's making the trek from the Pacific Northwest. If you see him, make sure you tell him what a terrific job he is doing on the Usagi books.

If someone can pick up a copy of the new sketchbook plus one of the Spanish ones (so please bring them along Stan!) for me, then I'd be grateful :)

*sigh*

The vagaries of the Con being when it is. If it was in August, then I could possibly combine it with the other convention I go to. Or if that one came forward of course.

Stan, if you will tell me what both of those will cost, I will pay in advance for them just so they are available for Mayhem. You can PM me. I want to be sure that it's taken care of in case you run out.

I never got a copy of the original sketchbook. If you have extras bring one!

As I mentioned in the other thread, I'll be looking for the 4 color specials.

And probably other stuff, too.

I have the first three color specials (the first in both the regular and special editions). I'll look for the one from DH as well.

For those who ask me to bring things, I have those aside for you. Please identify yourselves and ask me for them, even if you see the same merchandise on the table top.

If you're interested in the color stuff, there were also 16 issues of UY published by Mirage all in color.

I'm more interested in reading Usagi that I've not seen yet, but I might have to take a look at some.

My main problem is that I kill comic books that I read. I really prefer the books. I've even had that problem with the Groo books - they all fall apart the first time I read them.

Sorry, but I do not deal with mail orders at all. Perhaps someone would be willing to pick up a copy for you at San Diego.

Otherwise, these stories (sans color) will be reprinted in a couple of years.

I will try to get this for you. We can work out the details later. I am going for sure on Saturday-- my plans to go all four days have been kicked to the curb so to speak-- but I will pick you up a copy and mail it to you.

So, Stan, I will need set aside for me a new sketchbook, a new sketchbook in Spanish (is that right?), and the color special(s) however you have them.

As for ME-- I'll just see what you have!

Of course. It is no trouble at all.

Is there anything in particular you would like me to write? Would you like it personalized to you?

I just received the "Emerald Dragon" lithograph posters to sign, and they look wonderful. It's a large print, about 17 x 24.5 with an image area of 14 x 19.75, on high quality paper. It is an edition of 100, with 20 Artist's/Publisher's proofs. I don't know how much it will retail for, but DH hopes to sell out at San Diego.

I heard from the publisher of the UY RPG. Unfortunately, due to a printing SNAFU, it will not be ready for San Diego. They will do a limited print run of 100 copies of a trade paperback edition, which they will sell at Anthrocon (80 books) and I will have at San Diego (20 books). The trade edition will have the image of Usagi on page 135 of the Art of UY. It will sell for $30. The regular edition will be hardcover, most likely with a different cover. The reason for the change of cover art is because the original cover would not accommodate the "flavor text" they wanted to drop in. The regular edition will retail for $40 (actually $39.95). The book contains a lot of art, most notably my con drawings, some of which have appeared on the back covers of the comics.
