Real World on DVD
I was at Gary's and picked up the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' new DVD "Return of the Ultimate Ninja". It contains five episodes, including Real World in which Leonardo goes to Usagi's world and meets up with Usagi, Gen, Tomoe Ame, Lord Noriyuki, and others.

I finally watched Real World Parts 1 and 2 on DVD. Very cool, and not not too far from the Usagi universe that we all know and love. I know with kids in mind, the action had to be toned down, but it was hilarious watching the Neko Ninja running away after Usagi and Co. beat them up. Definitely G-rated Usagi. At least they weren't fighting robots like in Space Usagi....
Regarding the voices, it was a little annoying that some spoke with accents and others didn't. Like Tomoe. Also, someone needs to tell them how to pronounce "Gennosuke"!!!! They got "Usagi" right, and "Tomoe Ame" (most of the time), but Je-no-soo-kay??? Gads!!! Oh well ...
My question is, wasn't there another episode of the new series with Usagi in it? Like a cameo appearance? If so, which one and has it been collected on DVD yet?

Yes, but it didn't cut anything from the cartoon-- nothing was missing.DarthNuriko wrote:Just curious, is anyone else's copy lacking subtitles? If so, do you also have an awkward moment of black space in the Planet Racers episode?
As for subtitles, I don't need/use them, but I know that others would like them. Who knows why? Perhaps they needed space for all the "coming attractions"!

hello,
I picked up the dvd with the real world episodes this afternoon after work. It was a nice way to relax after a long week!
I must say I was entralled the entire time. I wanted more!!
I had goose bumps as I watched. It made me really want to see a Usagi animated series!! The only thing I would change would be the style of the animation, I can't put my finger on it and I guess its a matter of personal opinion, but I'd like it even closer to Stan's vision in the books...err well maybe its just cos I saw it in color as opposed to black & white hehe
It was awesome to see Usagi, Tomoe, Noriyuki, hebi and the others all interacting though. One of my favourite moments was when Usagi said something along the lines of how he couldnt wait to get out of the ninja garb that he and leo were using as camouflage to sneak into Hebi's fortress. He said he felt dishonourable in ninja garb!! hehe
I'm just wondering is there any hope that there may be a Usagi series on the fox box anytime soon??
Heres hoping!!
One last question and this would be directed for Stan, how closely were you involved in those episodes in terms of the design/look of the characters with the animation, as well as story & dialogue.
Thanks,
abayo

I approved everything. There were a few minor things I made changes on. Peter Laird is very hands-on with this series and had a lot more detailed comments than I did. Both he and 4-Kids really wanted to bring my version of Usagi into the Turtles' world--within reason of course. These stories, especially the Battle Nexus, would not fit with Usagi's present continuity.starseed wrote:

Thanks for the info Stan, its always interesting to learn about the behind the scenes goings on with Usagi.
Those 2 episodes were very well done, non stop action and like I mentioned before I couldn't help but get goose bumps as I watched in awe wanting more
!
Thanks for the reply,
Cheers!
