I had to abandon 'The Once and Future King' to read Cormac McCarthy's 'The Road' because it belongs to a friend who needed it back. Long story short, AMAZING! I cannot recommend The Road highly enough! If you're looking for a great and quick read you should pick it up.
I just recently finished 'The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul' by Douglas Adems, author of 'The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy'. 'The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul' is the sequel to 'Dirk Gentleys Holistic Detective Agency', wich like all of Douglas Adems' books i really liked.

Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy (Probably not for everyone but it's a fascinating novel, very different from The Road but worth reading if you liked that novel)
The Good Soldier by Ford Madox Ford (For a graduate Brit. Lit. class)
