I guess the question is will collectors who already have a 1st edition sit out getting a second edition or are they different enough that they will want it too. If it is the former then I think this will solve the problem. If it is the later then it probably won't and will actually create a new "hardest to get your hands on" item.
I don't think there is a cut & dry answer.

Some of the more casual collectors will be happy to let it slip by, being content with the first edition. However hard core collectors and completionists will still want to get a copy because of the new cover and new introduction page.

Then there are also the resellers (flippers) who will want it because of the limited run, and the high demand for anything Usagi related right now, in hopes of making a profit off it.

I think re-issuing the softcovers is a great idea, especially for the more casual or new readers/collectors.

I am officially sitting out the new Saga #1 hardcover. So there is one less completist you have to compete with.

THANK YOU! I have all the other HC editions, but somehow missed the first one when it came out. I've been looking for it ever since and marveling at the crazy prices it goes for when it occasionally does show up. I'll be happy to put this new one on my shelf next to the other ones (already pre-ordered).

There is not a significant difference. There is the new cover (which we may eventually make into a print), signature plate, and an introduction by Editor Diana. The stories are the same. I don't know if Designer Cary will be doing anything new with the interiors. Also, the framing on the cover will be blue instead of the black of the first edition.

Will these be numbered 1 through 600, 901 through 1500 or not at all?

I just received the signature plates, and it looks like it will be signed but not numbered.

That is probably for the best if goal is to make Vol. 1 less hard to get. A new cover, a new forward and a new numbering, rather than a continuation or as it seems to be the case, no numbering, makes it feel to me like a different product that people will want in addition to their first edition/printing.

I preordered a copy through Amazon, but DCBS is cheaper. However they do charge for shipping.

I've already made the decision not to buy the 2nd print of the Limited Edition of the Saga 1. But it is interesting to me (at least) that the second printing will more rare than the first printing. I guess that doesn't play out in the collectors market that much (at least I don't think it does, but what do I know :)).

Glad you who want one will get one. Peace, maka

Just grabbed my 2nd Ed LE copy!

I've been trying to grab a HC#1 since I got my haul of other HCs a while ago. There's currently 3 copies up for sale on ebay: A set 1-5 for £600, 1 by itself for £595, and an AP copy going for ~£1,500. Insanity, can't justify those prices. Much easier to get a shiny new copy (and ultimately, rarer!) for about £65. :D

Roll on April! Let's get that HC set completed, already excited.

Like Maka, I'm trying to decide which will ultimately end up more "valuable" out of interest. They both have different USPs which appeals to collectors - it's quite rare, as I understand it, for a 2nd edition to be rarer than a 1st edition - makes sense here though, bringing the overall total to 1,500. Will collectors value the first edition or the rarer edition more? Even I'm not sure which I'd value more.
Not that it matters, no intentions of parting with them. Just curiosity.
