Okay, so we all know how rare and mysterious Albedo #2 really is. Very few of us own one, and even fewer have seen one for sale in recent years. An endangered species among comic books? Most likely. Extinct? Not yet... There are still the sightings. The close encounters... People even claim they have seen one with a reasonable price tag attached. It's creator, S. Gallacci, tells tales of it appearing ever so often among back issue bins and store shelves for a 'low price'... Yes, the tales are still being told, even to this day... And so, we present to you... The Untold Tales of Albedo NR 2 The Holy GrailAnother UYD-Member, "Shingen", found a copy of Albedo NR 2... without even trying! Read this story, posted on the DojoBoard: Thank you Glenn for finally making me fill welcome in the dojo. I will try to keep this short. I found the holy grail. Yes, that is right. And I wasn't even looking for it. A friend of mine and I have been helping each other out with our collections. And last Sunday, I went down to the local shop and dicovered that they had changed the place around a bit. They use to have only the new books out where they were accessible to the public, and the back issuses were keep in back. Anyway, they now have all the back issuses where anyone, including myself, can go through them. So, not having alot of other things to do, I went ahead and searched for a few things. Not really knowing what I would find. I ended up searching thier entire stock. Starting from Z - A. I almost gave up when I got to the B's. But something was calling me. I got to the last box. The A's. And in that last box I foung Albedo Vol. 1 NR 3. Which I already had, but was still suprised to see. So, I took it to the counter to find out how much, and as I put it on the counter I turned it over. And this is the part you won't believe. There in the bag, on the other side of the backer board was the Holy Grail. Albedo Vol. 1 NR 2. But the story doesn't end there. The guy behind the counter rings me up for a grand total of $3.50 Cover price! Then as I leave the shop in a total haze, still not quite believing this was all real, I made another amazing discovery. My newly acquired Albedo Vol.1 NR 2 was signed "Best, Stan Sakai" bunny drawing and all. So, Glenn, again I thankyou for being the first person to respond to my postings. And I hope to meet as many members as I can at the next San Deigo Comic Con, including you Glenn. Thank you. Now if I could only tell Gordon Smith the news, Good-bye all. Another Successful Abduction!!!UY Dojo Daimyo Glenn Masuda recently acquired a copy of the elusive ALBEDO NR 2. Read his story... NOW I think I have a story for you on the "Untold Tales of ALBEDO NR Vol. 2" Webpage! In my search for the long sought after ALBEDO Vol. 1 NR #2, I put out a message on the newsgroup, "alt.fan.furry"(Lead courtesy of Mr. Steve Gallacci). Most of the responses were fairly useless and moronic, (e.g., "...like isn't that one of the MOST DIFFICULT comics to find?"...."No way in hell are you going to find THAT one!...) as well as offers to buy it as soon as I found a copy. One day, I received an e-mail from a Mr. Edward Gould from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada indicating the he was interested in selling off some of his collection. He offered to sell me the much coveted NR #2 to me for $10.00! I quickly snapped up the offer, and in ten days, the comic arrived! RYAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Here's where it gets even better...I was going to negotiate the price of ALBEDO Vol. 1 NR #1 when I get another e-mail from Mr. Gould. It seems that Mr. Gould went to the library, looked up the value of the comics in "Overstreet", and felt that he had overcharged me. He then sent me not only ALBEDO Vol. 1 NR #1 (second printing), but the even scarcer ALBEDO Vol. 0, NR 0 Prototype (first printing)! All three comics for $10.00!! DOUBLE RYAAAAAAAAAAAA! Many thanks to Mr. Ed Gould, a true furry fan (an a pretty good artist in his own right!) for being so helpful in the spirit of Usagi Yojimbo fans! Shame on those of you dealers out there who are just trying to invest and speculate!! Now you are talking to one VERY happy Usagi Yojimbo fan! You were right Shogun-san, keep on persevering and don't lose hope! There are some copies still out there! The Real Story About the Cover of Albedo #2Stan has his own Untold Tale of Albedo #2... Have you ever wondered if the cover to Albedo #2 could have looked a little better??? Well, wonder no more... it could have! According to Stan, Steve Gallacci's original intention was to hand-silkscreen the covers as a seven-color print-- a monumental task when you consider that each color requires a separate screen and a separate pass (by hand) with a printing squeegee (And printing on paper is a lot more troublesome than printing on cloth, such as t-shirt material, which absorbs the ink and speeds up drying time). It's not certain how many Steve actually printed before coming to his senses, but he gave Stan several copies of them. These "serigrap" covers were never used as such, but Stan say's they're pretty neat! Legend of the Cover Price Copy of Albedo #2This story comes from Albedo fan Cpt. Kangarooski... He tells the tale of how he began collecting Albedo in early 1994 in the small, quaint town of Cambridge Massachusetts. His first issue was Vol. 3 #2, purchased at Million Year Picnic. Little did he know that his fascination for the title would eventually lead him straight into... The Outer Limits. The Time: Spring, 1995. The Place: Waltham, Massachusetts... The Captain had only discovered Albedo a year before, and was incidentally abducted by its strange magnetic pull. He had ventured into yet another Outer Limits Comic Book Shop with the intent of hunting down several of the issues. And his hunt proved successful. Not only did the men from the Outer Limits find many issues for him, but sold them all to him for cover price... including the illusive Vol. 1, #2... yes, you read right. He bought a mint condition Albedo Vol. 1, #2 for only a buck-fifty... LAST SPRING!!! Call it luck, call it divine intervention, call it whatever you may, but the truth is out there: it exists... for sale... somewhere, some place, at this very moment... for a more-than-reasonable price... BTW, the Captain may have located a copy of Albedo Vol.1, #2 for himself without even trying, but he's still having difficulty finding copies of Vol. 1 #13 and 14, and Vol. 2 #5 and 7... So, if you've got extras, he wants 'em. email him if you'd like to sell him your copies. Also visit his web page at http://gryphon.ccs.brandeis.edu/~cpt/... And no, his #2 is NOT for sale... Better luck next time. If you've got an Untold Tale of Albedo NR 2 that you would like to share with us, don't hesitate to post on the DojoBoard Forum about it. |
